I am so missing not being down town any longer.......I will continue to read the blogs and check out the babies....Being retired is certainly different from working no soubt about it.

I've been following the posts with interest and have a question.  At first, I thought Ivy was a girl, but it turns out, he's a boy! Can anyone tell me why he has a feminine name?

I found this in past observations, I hope this helps.  :)

Ivy's name is dynastic

I must admit, I'm feeling badly for Ivy.  He sits on this nestbox looking for someone and it seems like they are never coming.  Don't know if he's waiting for Princess or if Joli just isn't ready to come into the nestbox.  In any case, he hasn't been hopping into the box as often as he used to and it just makes me a wee bit sad to see him so patiently waiting when he's on camera.
At the beleef de lente site where the steenuil (screech owl) male died early in the season, Mrs Steenuil called patiently night after night for a suitor. It seemed to take forever but lo and behold a man turned up a couple of days ago. It's time for Ivy to start squawking and for us to not lose hope.

Looks like someone is hanging out on the nest box ledge. I'm not close enough or good enough to say who.

Ivy should take out a personal ad: young attractive bachelor, owns downtown penthouse, looking for a single female to start a family.  :-*

Need to include "has a good job" but that doesn't seem quite right for our little hunting machine ... what about "good provider"?  And would it be too much to say, "loves kids and happy to help around the house"?

The male was on the east ledge at 12:15, but he's gone now.

I'm not giving up on Princess until we've had a few days of warm weather...

All you watchers down town.  Any new updates on the Raddison birds?  Does Ivy have a mate yet?  Do you think we will have falcons to watch this year?

All quiet on the western nestbox.  Looked like Ivy hanging out at the nestbox pre-dawn and then for a 90 second (literally) visit mid-morning.  Hopefully when the sun comes around the Hotel we will see a bit more of him either at the nestbox or on the sign below.  The spycam on the eastern side of the building has had a wee technical malfunction but Eye-Spy will be working to get it back up and operating when he is at the Hotel to do spring maintenance (and cleaning!) on the west side cams.  Then we will have cams in stereo at the Radisson again.

I'm answering this one here as well as on the HSC/CSC thread since it applies ...

So, is it possible for a female to have eggs in the same clutch with different fathers??

Who knows, kind of out of my experience I'm afraid.  Closest I have is when T-Rex incubated his father's eggs when Pop disappeared mid-incubation.

To be fair to Joli, I can't think when I last saw Joli and Ivy canoodling ... could be that Ivy is the one who has decided to wait for Princess and Joli has stopped waiting for Ivy.  Could be that what we are watching now is Ivy defending the nestbox from Smiley and Joli ...
