approaching the time for eggs to be laid.  We have lots of time yet to see who ends up with who and where.

I'm going to keep rooting for Ivy keeping the Radisson though ...  :)

Am keeping my talons crossed. ;)

I sure hope Ivy and a female can get together.  We need to have chicks at the Raddison.

I checked the recorder before work this morning to see what/who's been at the nestbox and it looks like Ivy is still in control.  He parked himself on the edge of the box at 2145h last night (Tuesday) and was there visibile until 0610 this morning.  He has been popping into the nestbox all morning.  I've been able to see his silver leg band all but one time and right now he is sitting sentinel on the Radisson sign and the box is empty.  This guy is not going to give up this box - good for him, it will ensure he gets a female at some point - Joli, Princess (maybe) or someone new.

It is not unusual for "new" pairs to take longer to court one another these birds all came home a week-ish late and we are only just approaching the time for eggs to be laid.  We have lots of time yet to see who ends up with who and where.

I'm going to keep rooting for Ivy keeping the Radisson though ...  :)

So, is Joli just being a wee bit more bohemian than we are used to?

Well, given that Ivy has produced many children with his mother, and that he left Jules for Mommy Dearest, I'm convinced that Peregrines are deeply lacking in morals and decent behaviour.

On the other hand, there is dear Beau hanging in with Jules trying to get her to nest in a nice nestbox but still she goes and nests in her "unsuitable" location.  Seems to depend on whether there are kids involved.  If there are, they are devoted.  If there aren't, then some consider other options. Ivy had a failed nest with Lucy, then he had a failed nest with Jules before finally giving up and trying his luck downtown.  Princess rebuffed him the first year he courted her, preferring to wait for Trey to return.  The next year, there was little waiting and Trey never returned and the rest is history.

And didn't Jules have a brief fling with Ivy at the beginning of the season?!?   :o

Okay, while Dennis and I were out today, we found a pair at HSC - not surprising - or rather we saw one bird that I thought looked like Joli (and it was) and then a male came in, ate some food, then the pair engaged in some exceedingly heavy canoodling.  Ah, young love  :)  Then Dennis checked his photos and it looks like Joli has made another choice than we had hoped for ... Smiley.   :o

There was an early morning visit today as I reported on in my last post.  No way to see who it might have been.  No visits since then and no visits yesterday.  But on Sunday, I have a clear view of Ivy and his band in the nestbox a number of times before I went up to clean out the nestbox.  And then when I was there, there was a female, but she was too high for me to tell who she might be but I'm sure the male was Ivy yelling at me from his usual perch.

So, is Joli just being a wee bit more bohemian than we are used to?  Or has she given up on Ivy?  Or has Ivy decided that Joli isn't who he is looking for?  And/or has someone new (female) turned up at the Radisson?  So many questions, such tiny little leg bands!  ::)

at 0600h this morning both the female and the male came to check out the snow in the nestbox and they both went all the way into the box to check it out and were there for a minute or two before the male left and then the female a minute later.  Unfortunately, I could see them in the dim light with the skycam but there wasn't enough light to be able to see on either the inside or outside box cams so I can't say what they were doing inside, just that they were inside.

Hopefully they will be back later to check it out again ..

Apparently it is some kind of kite to scare away Geese from nesting on top of the Hydro building.  I am hopeful it will not scare away our Radisson residents though.

CBC had this on the Manitoba site today:  http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/story/2013/04/15/mb-bird-kite-geese-rooftop-nest-hydro-building-manitoba-winnipeg.html

All quiet on the cams today ... still snowing at the Radisson  (it's been snowing for 12+ hours now) ... maybe tomorrow we'll have some visitors.

Saw a peregrine on the corner of the Sterling bldg on a drive thru downtown around 11:30 today.  No idea who!

Hi everyone! So glad all the action is back. Sorry to hear that Princess may not return!  Not what we like to hear but a fact of life nonetheless. Another great summer ahead!

Oh, and the cams will go live on May 15th at the latest.  Earlier if the birds get down to business earlier.  As per usual, last week or 10 days of incubation of our first nest is when both cams will go live.

This is barring any unanticipated technical difficulties of course!

Will be looking forward to it! I've always loved the cams but now with sound, they are even more enjoyable.
