Feb. 25 Update:

Phoebe has laid an egg this morning at 6:17am.....

I am so sad to hear about Sassy - I noticed that she was slow to acquire feathers, but sometimes baby birds who grow slowly at first catch up later.

According to the site, Phoebe is now preparing Jade and Julep's nest for eggs.

Too bad about Sassy, she had made it so far!

It will be interesting to see if they nest again given the lack of fruit flies in the area - usually they renest a couple of times per season as I recall ....

Sassy passed away this morning! I guess it was something more serious than her feathers.

Owww - that looks like it could be some horrible skin disease. And painful, too. Let's hope it's can be remedied.

Awww...she's adorable.  I can see what they mean about her feathers or lack thereof.  I hope it's something treatable and that she can eventually be released to the wild.  Thank for posting the link.

They were saying that there aren't enough fruit flies due to the bad weather. I have a few in my plants that I'd love to send on a California vacation. I feel bad for the Mom too!

Awww...I hope she will be okay.  Poor mama, both her chicks lost to her

The chick, (Sassy) has been taken out of the nest and sent to rehab. I don't know what the problem was but the chat sounds like they were worried that her feathers weren't developing properly. They think she was malnourished.
