Makes sense ... also means I'm merging this thread into the webcam thread so that folks can keep up with the story!

Who is Phoebe?  Where is Phoebe?
Phoebe Allan is the Hummingbird on a nest in California who has had a variety of nasty things happening to her eggs (ie. attacked by lizards, snatched by crows!) She's actually on the thread below this one, TPC. Maybe you want to move these posts there? :-\

Oh!!! Great news!  :D Thanks for posting this Elaine! I'll have to look for her tomorrow, even if breeding season is over. She is a very beautiful bird and a good mother, from the sounds of things, when given half a chance! This has been a very difficult year for her.

Phoebe was back in the nest just now, working to get it fixed up and secure; I don't know if this means she is about to have eggs again, but from what I understand, the hummingbird breeding season is over.  Nevertheless, there she is!  And what a gorgeous little bird she is - she looks like a rainbow!

Is this a different nest? Pheobe's eggs were both eaten by a crow on the 29th.
Yes, I can see how the two hummingbird sites can be confused, birdcamfan. Both appear to have the same last name of "Allan". So sad about Pheobe's eggs. :'( But Bitsy, at the other nest site, seems to be doing fine with her two young 'uns, Bean and Button! :D

Okay, Mom just flew in to feed the kids, what I thought was a big black hole in the iddy-biddy nest was in fact the back of the chicks ... Bitsy arrived, Bean and Button, or at least their mouths, popped up/open and food faucet was turned on ... bery long beak, bery short chicks ...  :o

This is usually such a great site but it's been a bit of a downer with all of these nest invasions over the past few months. I hope things get back to normal eventually!

It's a surprise she laid anymore at all as this is coming up to her "off" time according to the website. This Mama needs a few months off. She must lose a lot of calcium.
Thanks for this post, birdcamfan. I am new at learning about hummingbirds. Didn't know much about their reproductive cycle. Hadn't even thought about the calcium loss. It was just such a shock for me yesterday when her eggs were snatched by a crow, particularly after I had been watching her get ready to lay them. And when she returned to her nest, she appeared to be looking for them, which was sad. :'(

If y'all are needing your hummingbird chick fix, here is another nest, with eggs.  Also in California.
