I couldn't get on the Internet last night, so could not report.

Yesterday evening, just before I arrived, Froona was on top of the heart institute, and very comfortable; but she got scared off by maintenance people who opened the door on the roof.  She was panicky, and flew to the CSB, but could not seem to find a place to land, and sort of hit, or fluttered against, the side of the building; she then flew over the CSB and then the heart institute, and finally landed across the street on one of the ledges on Newton Place.  We do not think she was injured, but she was in a tight spot on the ledge, and could not stretch her wings, and we believe she lost her confidence.  Her brothers landed on the roof of Newton Place, and they flew around to encourage her to fly up to them, but she didn't budge.  The boys then played aerial tag and catch-me-if-you-can for a while, enjoying their flying skills.  Although Froona watched them, and did alot of calling, she did not join them.  The parents flew over a few times, and kept an eye on things.

It will be somewhat difficult for her to fly off that edge because she does not have room for wing-flapping, so even though she has the power, she also has the weight, and she would have to really launch herself off the side of the building to gain altitude; at the time I left, we did not think she felt secure enough to do that.  At the time I left, at 9:00 p.m., she was still there.

Other than this, our youngsters were doing very well; but Bev, I know, will be down there first thing this morning; we are all concerned about how Froona will lift off and gain the needed altitude from such a narrow ledge.

I'm not sure about today, but last night (pre-flight), she was so lovely and peaceful.  She just leisurely cat-walked around the outside of the roof of the CSB, occasionally perching on the corner watching all of Edmonton go by.  There was no sound at all from her, and really -- why should there be?  She sure wasn't hungry.  Not with two pigeons in two hours.  I'm surprised she was able to fly with such a full belly.  You wouldn't have known it was the same girl who had been so vocal and agitated just a couple of nights before.  No cawking ... no wing-flapping.

I won't be able to go over there this evening, so we're looking forward to getting updates from Mr. & Mrs. Bev or one of the others.

OOOOH, I wonder what adventures are happening today!

How perfect that Froona took a beautiful strong flight.  She waited until her family was all settled so they could all watch!  It wasn't mentioned, but has she quieted down any, now that she sorted out the fledging thing?

Oh, I am dying to hear something from Bev or Mr. Bev ... or anyone.  I'd love to know how our Froona's doing -- even if I am a little mad at her.  Four hours I stared at that bird last night.  Four hours I hardly took my eyes off her.  And she waits until minutes after we leave to fly.  Fine, Froona ... be like that.

(Okay, I won't stay mad long.  *snap*  There.  I'm over it.)

Lol... ;D  I'm anxious to hear how she is doing as well.

I want to add my thanks to Bev., Mr. Bev, and all the others involved in this very important task we have given ourselves.  It is a great pleasure for me to be part of this whole watch/forum.  I truly think we are making a difference and that we are passing along the word about what we are all doing and why.

I love hearing from all of you with your descriptions and running commentary.  I feel like I know the places and faces that you are talking about and that I am right there with you.

Bev. you are an amazing lady and have nothing to apologize when you say sorry for not posting and adding pics.  Darn girl, you are busy!  Just keep yourself hydrated and when the others tell ya to go rest, do it.  But, I really do appreciate all of your hard work.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

On my way to bed but Peter just  phoned and I will let him tell you , but Froona just made her first big flight to the clinical science building  above nest box and then way over the heart building. :-* :-*

Ha!  I knew she'd be a good flyer...(brags the proud step parent)!!  She took her time and waited until she was good and ready!  When I saw her out on the roof of the nest box and she'd flap..she was so strong, not wobbly at all so I had a feeling she would be good - no doubt the family genes are strong in this one   ;D

Thanks Bev and Mr Bev for your reports and thanks for sending Bev home to get some rest  ;)

Mr. Bev here.  Yes Bob and Carol, but it wasn't 15 minutes, it was just a couple of minutes.  In any event, the evening started out with us trying to get rid of Bev and send her home for a much needed break.  Froona was on the roof ledge of CSB catwalking.  She was fed at 6:00 PM then again shortly after 8:00 PM.  The two boys treated us to a great aerial display of playing tag.  Things settled down and we settled in to watch and make sure Froona would be OK.  The boys and the adults settled in as well.  Then just minutes after Bob and Carol left, Froona started to catwalk to the corner of the roof ledge.  Suddenly she took off, flew towards the nest box roof ledge then veered off and flew over the Heart building, with what seemed like very little effort.  There is no doubt that she is and will be a very strong flyer.  My feeble attempt to keep up and run around the Heart building didn't work very well and I was afraid I would loose her and wouldn't be able to find her.  As I got to the other side I looked around for her and there she was on another window washer arm looking like she was thinking, "well I got here, now what do I do".  I stayed and watched her till darkness fell.  She remained where she was.  Hopefully Bev will have no difficulty finding her in the morning.  Barring any unforseen circumstances, she will have no difficulty flying with her power and strength.  "What an amazingly beautiful wonder of nature she has turned out to be.  I'm off to bed.  Will keep you posted.

You mean to tell me that Carol and I stared at that bird for four hours as she strolled along the ledge of the CSB and stretched her wings in a leisurely manner now and then (no flapping) and that 15 minutes after we left, she flew? Darn! Rats! Drat! and other choice words I can think of in both official languages.  j/k.

Happily, we were treated to some fancy aerial displays with the boys playing tag and circling around above. We'll add an opportunity to view Froona's soaring to our list of experiences during our next shift on Thursday.  Congrats, girl!

Thanks for that last Froona news, Bev.

It's hard to add anything more to the thanks from those before me.
Your dedication to the peregrines is so evident, but I'm grateful also for your dedication to reporting to us what you are seeing.
