Princess has been back on the chicks for about 35 minutes now and all appears to back to normal. She's got them tucked completely under her at the moment, no chance to see so much as a bit of fluff she's got them so well protected.

I anticipate that this afternoon we will have chickpiles in the afternoon sun for a change  :D

Spoke with one of our contacts at the Radisson and they are going to check what's up on the roof of the Hotel and remind the contractors that there are young chicks right now and that the adults are distressed by loud noises on the roof.  Things like this can happen, folks forget when they are distracted by work.  It's cool but dry and the chicks know how to huddle together so they will stay warm until the adults return.  The box is sheltered too so that will help.  And at the moment, the chicks are all asleep so that will help reduce their stress and their parents.

How come the brain and the fingers won't work together.....I know the spelling of "menacing" but still turns out as "manacing".  Woe is me!

Oh, Oh!  Princess sounds upset.  Voices on top of the Radisson!  Or near there!  Think they should be on the lookout for a manacing flyby ::)

Looks very windy up in the box today.  Does not look as windy out my window in South Winnipeg.  Hopefully the wind dies down today because it is supposed to be sunny today,

just wonderind does the other psrent ever come into the nest to help shelter from the cold and wind. I have never seen both parents in the nest except at feding times/

If Ivy weren't the resident male here, I would say "no" but he quite happily comes "inside" when he wants to get out of bad weather.  Unless Princess is laying eggs or on/protecting the egg/schicks, you can't get her inside the box.  Have never been able to get any of our other adult birds to hang out in nestboxes during bad weather either.  Made me count the birds twice last year when Ivy hopped in to join his 2/3 grown kids last year ...

Did anyone watching the cam this afternoon hear a loud noise around 1:30 or so?  We were in our boardroom and a huge plane swooped by a couple of times - second time it looked like it was going to hit the Radisson.  We literally jumped out of our chairs.....

I went for a walk about that time and was at St Mary & Hargrave (about 2 blocks from the Radisson). . . it pretty much brought pedestrian traffic to a halt. Some of the other people around said it was a military aircraft and thought it was a Hercules. Not sure what it was about -but it certainly was loud!
There was a Herc swooping back and forth over us while we ran the Air Force half-marathon on Sunday. Perhaps they were buzzing Portage and Main/The Forks in celebration of the NHL team purchase. They are pretty loud.

It did look like a Herc....man it was sure close to the nestbox!

It still sounds very gusty in the nest box!  Can't see a thing.

Ivy is no doubt, close by, hunkered down in a sheltered spot, awaiting the command of his Princess should she need him (for a snack usually).  I think that both parents are aware that it's Princess with her experience and her wide girth that provide the best protection for the chicks. ;)
