This is one reason that I love Nature.  Here's our Princess, no whining, no complaining about how tired she is, just protecting her chicks with all she's got, for as long as it takes. :-*

Did anyone watching the cam this afternoon hear a loud noise around 1:30 or so?  We were in our boardroom and a huge plane swooped by a couple of times - second time it looked like it was going to hit the Radisson.  We literally jumped out of our chairs.....

I went for a walk about that time and was at St Mary & Hargrave (about 2 blocks from the Radisson). . . it pretty much brought pedestrian traffic to a halt. Some of the other people around said it was a military aircraft and thought it was a Hercules. Not sure what it was about -but it certainly was loud!
There was a Herc swooping back and forth over us while we ran the Air Force half-marathon on Sunday. Perhaps they were buzzing Portage and Main/The Forks in celebration of the NHL team purchase. They are pretty loud.

Princess is going to have a rough nite with the wind predicted to get stonger than now.   How strong is the "velcro"? ??? Those pebbles are nothing to hang on to!

Here's hoping that she is very aerodynamic but as I say this, I see how strong the back draft is on her wings and tail! Hope that awful wind dies down soon. :-\

Princess is on the eggs right now and she's head down, butt up to keep the little darlings covered.  The wind is catching her tail feathers so it is either swinging or has swung around to the NW.  May annoy the Radisson birds overnight but its a nice break for the Brandon birds!

Think you must mean on the "chicks" right now, n'est pas?
...I don't know, in this weather, if i was a chick i might try to climb back into my shell - a little extra protection after all...

I know, susha.  At times she is almost doing a headstand, with the wind caught under her.

Oh Boy!!  This is nerve-wracking!!  Looks like the wind is almost lifting Princess off the chicks :o who would surely blow away in these gusts!!

Someone please tell me that Princess can hang on... :-\

Wind Warning: Winnipeg  Issued at 5:22 PM CDT Tuesday 31 May 2011
Summary
Northwest winds gusting to 90 km/h in the Red River Valley this evening.

Details
The intense low pressure system that brought 50 to 60 mm of rain to Western Manitoba will bring very strong northwest winds to the Red River Valley this evening. In addition to what has already fallen, a further 5 to 10 mm of rain is expected in Western Manitoba before the rain tapers off this evening. This system will also bring very strong northwest winds of 70 gusting to 90 km/h to Winnipeg and parts of the Red River Valley this evening.

The is on the west side of the building.

Princess looks like she's moving a bit more towards the back of the nest and has found an angle where she won't be so exposed to the wind.

The wind sure is howling and gusts are getting under her wingtips too.  She has just shuggled everyone a bit and is nearly parallel with the opening.  Ivy just brought in prey, but Princess dismissed it and him.

I'm hoping she thanked him for his efforts but reminded him that the best place for the kids right now is tucked under mom.
