Alright, I can't remember and can't figure it out. >:( When you look at who is online at the bottom of the home page, sometimes names are in red, sometimes in blue. What does it mean???? I can't stand it any more!!!

The reds are Eggs, and the blue are those chatterboxes among us that can't stop posting and are Hatchlings and Chicks.

lmao Liz, yeah I've been a chatterbox ever since I started talking as a kid ;D But Tracy is not an egg, how come she's red and not blue like the rest of us chatterboxes? Is it because she's the Administrator?

Even more - people CHANGE colors! Sometimes Tracy is red, other times blue. I'm sooooooo confused. :P

Maybe it has to do with who is currently writing/posting a message, that could explain the changing of the colours.

I thought they were too, but I checked before I posted last night and decided only the Eggs are red, and Hatchlings and Chicks are blue. Maybe it is about who's been on in the last 15 minutes and either is or isn't on anymore. I only see myself as blue.

Willmax11 is red now, but shows as being logged on. So I don't think red is "was active in the last 15 but has logged off" but it was a good guess. :-\

I logged out and looked. I had disappeared - so I was only a guest. Didn't show me as "active in the last 15" - so it must only be "people who are logged in and have been active in the last 15" I think.

Right now that "eggs are red" thing is working. But since I've seen Tracy red, and some of the other chatty folks red (I'm SURE I have, but not since I've been documenting!!!) that can't be it.

I am lovin this! ROTFLOL,,, oh my goodness. too funny, Liz and Pchemist.. I have sat back and watched to see if you could figure it out! I have thought all that you guys did too! ha ha.. then said where is Tracy,, why does she not put us out of our misery?? Then she finally says,,, well she does not know either!!!!!!!!!!!!! So any ways we still have no clue then?
Okay,, here is what I have observed,,,,,,,,,,, Everyone who has been on here a lot and yakking regular is blue! Except Tracy.. She is always red. (but am thinking maybe she was blue every now and then)
All the rest of us, regular folks who log in everyday and post lots and lots of posts, and are chicks or close to it, are blue. All the newer or ones who have no posted much at all are red!
However before this thread started, I was lookin and wonderin why I was always blue, and some others were red? including TPC. I think? (dont know now am confused?lol) but I think that someof you regular folks were red every now and then and thats why I started thinking how come I am not red? Like well I am a chick, so hey, make me red also like TPC! Too funny. Maybe the person or company that looks after this website will take pity on us soon and explain? LOL..Love it.... having a blast. with this red and blue issue.!

I, too, was really glad someone actually asked the question as I'd been wondering all along as well. But, now that we can't figure it out, it's driving me crazy! Like a puzzle you can't figure out, but you know there's a solutions so you keep working at it... I've been checking things out and can't see the rhyme or reason, either....yet! ???

As I said, I came to the conclusion that eggs are red, and hatchlings and chicks are blue. It doesn't seem to have to do with when the last time one was online (the "15 minutes of fame" thing, which was a really good idea!). But if TPC is sometimes red, who knows! -- Maybe she can pick her own colour! Okay, we know she doesn't know either. Perhaps the people running the site can tell her. But I'm guessing she's too busy to check into that.

I'm voting for eggs are red so everyone knows who the newest users are.
TPC is red because she is very special, and I can't be certain I've ever seen her blue.
Sadly when I was an egg, I don't remember noticing this feature, and can't be certain I changed from red to blue at my hatching!

ha ha,,,, yes Liz, this is the way I am, ha ha, well what do I think? ;D hmmm,, that I have been blue for lonnnnnnnnng time! I am like BcBird ,I can't remember what the frig color I wuz in the beginning, too much else to figure out I expect. I have observed that ALL the newbys or ones who do not post much are ALWAYs red!and....... TPC been RED ever since I can remember! ALL you regular guys like me,,,,,,, Liz, enraptured, bcbird, pchemist, skygirlblue, eagle_63, etc, etc, are always blue and have been for days. But whenever I log on and there is only a few and I have to think, well who are they,,,,,, type thing? , lol,,,, they are red!!!!!!!!!! and they are new as in, new to post, have only posted comments less than 10 20 times type thing. Never got into checking when they joined and all that, Liz and ya'all!! Left that up to you guys.
I thought at one point that it had something to do with logging in, and being on the site, and that you were blue,,,,,,,,,,, but if you just closed your window, and did not log out? right? that maybe aperson stayed logged in and turned red? Dont know how to check that. ? Have ANY of you ever seen me red? Cause I have not. LOL This is so silly it is funny/!!

I've never seen you red (altho you prob were at beginning). That's why I thought it was about how many posts we've made. But TPC being red sometimes is the conundrum!

Maybe TPC's red because she's all-seeing, all-access privileges, etc. on this site and so when she started she was red and it never changed once she became a hatchling, chick, etc because she is privileged with the all-access pass and so "the site makers that be" always want her to stand out regardless of number of posts, seeing as the we, the more 'common folk' post, we all turn blue and thus get lost in the mix a little more. And of course, in any 'community' we always want to know who's in charge or 'special' and who's 'new' so we can be aware/observant, so to speak (pretending we're from a small kingdom/village of a past age!)...

Very true! I agree, royal purple would suit TPC very well and would really elevate the knowledge of her 'status' --- hopefully we wouldn't have to start calling her 'your Royal Highness' or 'Madame' or 'Chief'.... TPC in it's full form is lengthy enough! The 'The' before Peregrine Chick kind of covers the royalness /specialness I think! Hopefully she's never minded being shortened to TPC!!! ;D

yeah we need some more colors!!!! ha ha. MaYBE its a way for the monitors to "monitor" us, and they highlight the new ones, so they can see whether they are idiots or not! Like they need time to trace out who they are and all that,,, I know dont explain why TPC is red, but I like BC\s explanation,, she is head of it, but maybe they wanna keep track of her posts make sure she is not some nut with her own agenda also? Nor access webcams etc. Think we just been here long enough we are noticing every little thing, and without Princess and Trey we still what to post and maintain a connection with our new found fellow bird lover friends. Perhaps? JUst my thoughts.

It is a technical question. But I agree, we are just chatting on endlessly about it because we have no chicks to watch. I'm sure T will ask TPTB and let us know what it means, and then lock it down. And then we will move on to another topic to amuse ourselves before we have new eggs to watch! :D :D

I have come to treasure time spent on this forum. It was scary signing up and posting at first.
One thread that really touched me involved Liz, Deedream and Enraptured, as you shared agony over the distress of a mother apparently unable to open her beak. It seemed late at night, when horrible fears are much worse unshared. You three really cared for each other through your posts. You were friends. The forum seemed a safe place to share concerns, ask questions and make new friends.
So, yeah, if there aren't the chicks to watch and talk about, there are non bird related questions, the weather and... to keep in touch.

Hey bcbird -- it does make a huge difference, doesn't it! It was in the Elk River site, when we saw the mum with something stuck on her face all night. It was definitely a night of sharing stress and nothing we could do about it! And we stayed up too late worrying about it. You're right -- we have found friends here. People who are of the same frame of mind. I hope you felt accepted as soon as you started posting, all fears aside! I sure appreciate your input.

Bcbird, the way you described that experience between Liz, Deedream, and I really captured how it felt and the amazing thing was that it was our first real involvement with each other, but it certainly created a bond that I still feel. I'd only joined the forum a couple of days before, so I also experienced a safe, supportive place where no question or concern is silly and making new friends has been a lovely benefit.
To quote, all you have to do is press 'quote' on the top right hand of the person's post that you want to quote from, then immediately a posting box opens up for you to write in. It doesn't matter if the post you want to quote is several lower than the most recent post, just click quote on it and your post with the quote will appear as the most recent post once your finished.

Thanks, Liz! I was fairly new, but hadn't felt connected yet, really, until that worrisome night, but connecting with you and Deedream really was wonderful -- especially I think because when I put out the original question for help to see if we could help the mum or alert someone or something, I didn't expect to have the response that occurred from you and Deedream. It was amazing and I can't tell you how much a relief it was to be sharing and it really touched me that we'd all shared, supported, worried, etc, together and cared about supporting each other much like we were worrying about and sharing our concerns for the Peregrine mum.
Liz, I had to chuckle when I saw your quote that didn't work! It happens to all of us, that's for sure!

Just a quick revisit of the red/blue issue! I got my sister to log on under her new membership and sure enough, she's the only red member out of all the rest of us who are on frequently and are blue. So, I agree with Liz and others who think eggs and TPC are red....

Yep - from the "why am I an Egg" thread elsewhere:
Egg - 0 to 9 posts (1 yellow star)
Hatchling - 10 to 99 posts (2 yellow stars)
Chick - 100 to 499 posts (3 yellow stars)
Fledgling - 500 to 999 posts (4 yellow stars)
Old Bird - 1000+ posts (5 yellow stars)
Some of the chatterboxes are near to fledging! I will be a chick for a looooong time, I think. ;)

Thanks Pchemist for the reminder. I do, now, recall seeing that list of posting ranges quite some time ago when we first started out! Looking at how many posts are needed to fledge, I too, will be forever stuck in the scrape!

«yep, this reminds me of a conversation we all had back in the beginning, and we filled up a thread with questions about why we were èggs`and how do you get more `stars, etc...... twas funny,, Tracy let us have at it for awhile then she finally posted how it all worked. I truly thought that she knew about the red blue issue and was just sitting backing laughing and letting us try to figure it out ourselves. Was quite shocked that she chimed in the other day and said she did not know why we or she was red blue. LOL. Too funny.

Please don't Liz!!! From what I've investigated it's quite possibly to do with how many posts you have as to who is what color. Let's see if you turn green or yellow next!!! I've been all over the forum for the makers of this software to see if it's discussed in there, but apparently they aren't as interested as the rest of us as to why we have different colors, they are far more technically inclined and posting "fixes" and "modifications" for the software. Drab boring stuff, not even a single bird discussion! :o I can't hardly believe it ;D ::) Most I've been able to decifer though is that is has to do either with what group you are a part of (unsure about that, don't think TPC has assigned any of you chatterboxes to a looney group yet, heheeh just kidding) or how far up the ladder of time online and posts you have accumulated (apparently the forum software doesn't take into consideration the social discussions as separate :-X ) Gotta say I love to hear how the weather is doing in all areas of Canada though!

Interesting thought, since it really does seem that Eggs are red (TPC notwithstanding and I still don't get that!) - ever since I started paying close attention it's always been Eggs as red. But Hatchlings and Chicks are both blue - so we may not get a new color for Fledglings.
In this part of "southern canada" (okay, washington state - which is on the western border of Canada) it's gorgeous today. Sunny, probably hit a high of about 27C, calm, low humidity. I look forward to hanging out in my back yard with a glass of nice wine after work today. :)

Yeah, that threw me off too. Why didn't the chicks get a different color from the hatchlings? For Tracy being "always" red, it's possibly because she's the administrator and maybe modified her settings (not necessarily color) to allow her to use her "shovel and pail" to move everybody else around ;) , after somebody fledges we'll see. Good to see "Southern Canada" ;D is enjoying a beautiful day. So far all I've read about (and believe me there's alot to go through, geez you guys!!) it's been all thunderstorms and humidity!

I do note that on another forum where I am an administrator my name is in red. but it's not active (only in testing phases) so I don't have anything other than that to say (no one has posted anything like 100 posts!)

well here is something i just noticed. The latest member is CantitoeFalcon,, and they are showing 'blue', so I looked and they just joined today and have not posted and are blue. ??? Ithought we had it figured that everybody was red when they were eggs, and turned blue when they became a chick? Except for Tracy who is always red? There are a bunch of new members on here and they are showing red. Except CantitoeFalcon... HMMMMM..

No tricks. "latest member" is always in blue. Eggs are red, and Tracy is red. All others are blue. Haven't seen an exception since I posed this question - though I honestly thought I had seen people go back and forth. I was clearly mistaken!

Well, it should be fairly simple in the source code to find the bit that says "make Administrator red" and change it. Assuming you have access to the code (it's open source, that's not the issue - but someone has to edit it!) and can read it to get where you need. So whoever customized it for the banner and such should be able to make you whatever color you like! (I'd like green) 8)

My gosh yes, Royal purple for TPC, whatever she wants as far as I am concerned. If she wants me to research out colors and their meaning before she decides I will do so. Only the best will do for TPC! The rest of us will make do with our red or blue or green or whatever color we end up being and be darn glad about it!! She is in fact the Goddess, and as such should be attended to accordingly, and goddess's have gardens not only sand boxes, and if she notices any bad weeds in her garden then ... well she should have many gardeners to take care of that for her, and I have already applyed for that job, as I would hope that ya'all would! Never mind about us all worrying bout our own colours or anyone elses except hers. Right? 8) 8) 8)

The colours are related to the membergroups one belongs to ....
red - me as Admin and Supreme Goddess of the Sandbox
green - regular members; come 2009, members who joined prior to Jan 2009 and who (by posting at year-end) requested to remain active.
blue - regular members; come 2009, members who have joined since Jan 2009
The stars are the same ...
big red stars - me, Admin and blah-blah-blah
big green stars - active for a second year on the forum (and yes, there will be three stars for those of you who hang around until 2010)
small yellow stars - new members, number of stars tied to number of posts
Now that I'm playing with membergroups, I may add/change them some more in the new year, but they will probably work in pretty much the same manner. If I can find a way to have the small stars and the green stars show at the same time, will do that too. But that's for rainy days when its quiet.

The green stars only go to the Phanatics - that's anyone who posted (or emailed/pm'd me) to stay active in 2009. It used to say "Active 2009" which wasn't very creative if descriptive, so I gave it a better name! Fledgling is based on the number of messages you have posted.
For "new" or "returning" folks, they will have the little yellow stars along with egg, hatchling, etc based on the number of their posts.
Have another group, which is for school classrooms and they have one red star instead of the Phanatics two greenies. They have a private section now where I hope we can arrange interactive question & answer periods just for the kids. Am trying to figure out how you all can read, but only the kids can post, but haven't gotten that quite worked out yet.

It might be that new members are in red while they are an Egg. After 10 posts they hatch and are Hatchlings, and I seem to recall they have their name colour change to blue. I think we finally did sort this out last year, but that was a very long time and many, many posts ago.

Maybe TPC's red because she's all-seeing, all-access privileges, etc. on this site and so when she started she was red and it never changed once she became a hatchling, chick, etc because she is privileged with the all-access pass and so "the site makers that be" always want her to stand out regardless of number of posts, seeing as the we, the more 'common folk' post, we all turn blue and thus get lost in the mix a little more. And of course, in any 'community' we always want to know who's in charge or 'special' and who's 'new' so we can be aware/observant, so to speak (pretending we're from a small kingdom/village of a past age!)...
.... and now the ones in their second year, regardless of maturation,have become green.

...and not quite all of us who were here last year (or me at least due to my own fault) got to advance to green, despite the call out for getting in touch in December....I always did love the colour green...sniff, sniff, :'( , so blue is a little fuzzy for those of us that were slow and/or couldn't respond! Anyway, blue, green, or red.... I'm just glad we're all back and Princess and Trey's chicks are hatching! ;D

I better update as my post from a few minutes ago is already in error! I've been blue until a moment ago, as I described below, and all of a sudden I'm green! Maybe saying things out loud into the world, ethos, etc. really does bring you what you want (isn't there something called the Secret...I'm sure I've heard that referred to on tv, somewhere - I havent' followed any of it, so I may really be advertising my ignorance on that!). I'll have to try it with some bigger issues! :D

Well bcbird and Pchemist, now that you metion it, I have noticed a blue star beside my name, but I wasn't sure what that meant. I was really hoping that it did NOT mean that I was going to be put on a short leash or be shovelled or that TPC was going to have to threaten me with "Heidi"! At any rate, I have absolutely NO idea what it means. I have, however, noticed that my name was red when I was an Egg and now that I am a Hatchling, it's blue!

Kinderchick - look under your name, it says Classroom, that means you are in the Classroom membergroup which means you have kids attached to you as a teacher. This gives you access to the Classroom section of the Forum to read/post. Everyone else can read but they can't post there - its the younger viewer area of the Forum. The blue star goes along with the Classroom designation. If you check under other members' names, you will see Phanatic, those are folks that have been online since last year - they have two stars. Also under everyone's name is a classification (egg, hatchling, etc) which is related to the number of comments they have posted on the Forum. The username colours at the bottom are related to usergroups - red are newer members, green are the phanatics. I'm red forever it seems, I'd like to be another colour but ... :-\

Don't worry Kinderchick, you can post wherever you like as a private person wherever, you aren't blocked from anywhere. As for shovelling out some of the "others" from the Classroom, that is because some someones hadn't read the Classroom Rules ;). The Classroom is for formal education purposes only. The whole Forum is for educational purposes but The Classroom is just that, a classroom so its kids (and their teachers) only. We don't as yet, as far as I know, have kid members (under 16) but when we do, the plan is to allow them to have access to the Classroom to ask questions and the webcam boards to follow along with the peregrines. That's why I try to keep everyone on topic and PG-13. Kids would not have access to the Social Zone because folks there get a wee bit too social and I would like parents to feel comfortable letting their children come to the Forum. It doesn't apply to you as a member of the Classroom group, but I'm trying to block pm functions for kid members as well so that their online access is secure.
Does that clear it up ?

Do the phrases "its My Sandbox" and "must play well with others" sound familiar? They are in The Rules, both the short and long versions. This is a PG-13 Forum and it's primary purpose is to support/educate about peregrine falcons, here and away. It is the question and answer side of the Manitoba Peregrine Falcon Recovery Project and as such is a serious activity from my/our perspective. The social side of this Forum is a bonus and is suppose to be confined to the Social Zone because it can interfere with the primary purpose of this Forum. And it is all labour-intensive so I need to maximize the benefits, hopefully without curtailing the social relationships that have developed. However, its still "My Sandbox" ...

So, instead of me having to read 17 pages of "who's on first", did anyone ever figure out why we show as different colours at the bottom of the main page? I read the first couple of pages and green was never mentioned. Just blue, and red.
Can someone 'splain this to me? :-\

Okay, did some colour changes and here they are ...
Purple - The Peregrine Chick as admin
Green - Phanatics (two year olds)
Blue - Phanatics (one year olds - none yet)
Light Blue - Classroom / Teachers - want something that is easy to spot amongst the other colours
Red - new (current year) members

Would be nice, but have a limited pallette to work with, so light blue it is - and its for everyone within that membergroup .... check it out on the main page, Kinderchick is our only classroom active at the moment ...

I have been meaning to fix up the colours now that we have membergroups (Phanatics, Classroom, etc) and the default red/blue rules have driven folks crazy for more than a year - the fact that we have a thread asking what the colours mean is an excellent demonstration of this. And I used to be red which confused the heck out of every system we cam up with, so changed all the colours.

Anyone that has a yellow stars are members that joined since about November last year (when the peregrines migrated) - their name colour are all red to indicate this is their first year online.

True, and if you check down a couple of posts :D you will see that I have noted that we have no first year phanatics yet, you will be one in a few months and it will say Phanatic under your name, you will have 1 big green star and your name will be in blue along the bottom of the main page.
Now the Sandbox has pretty colours ... :-*

It was almost as if my name was disappearing! And I thought to myself, well, maybe now that school is almost over, my name is so light because I will be disappearing from the classroom for the summer! (LOL) ::)

Ha, Dennis and Larry got promoted to Project helper, then to project staff and now they are just project. Not sure why they turned blue and got extra stars, but is sure seems like patronage to me... hee hee hee

I am so happy to continue this long lasting thread with an on topic post.
In the stats at the bottom of the index page, we can see the most (of members and guests) logged in for today, and the most logged in ever, June 6, 2008.
It would be interesting to see the most logged in each year, as I doubt we will ever surpass the number of observers that sad day in 2008.

That was a sad day for sure! Will never forget it!..And yes it is nice to see who is on the forum. Whether we ever reach that number in one day again..........who knows. We don't want anymore disasters like that one. Perhaps next time it will be for a Happy One!
