Do the parents continue to feed the fledglings?  How soon will they be able to hunt on their own?

I have watched for a few years now (I used to work very close to the Radisson) and from my limited experience the parents keep track of their young and do feed them.  It seems to me that continues pretty much until they head south but certainly for several weeks.  At times they also entice the kids to fly higher by tempting them with food in their (the parent's) beaks.  Sort of like tag only if you catch the parent you can grab a snack. I've seen and heard them vocalizing and flying in circles. I suspect that they teach them to hunt. Hoping to make it downtown tomorrow  to look for the Radisson peregrines.

F2F is correct, the adults are following the chicks around feeding them and by this point also starting to use food to get the chicks to follow them around.  First stage in teaching them how to hunt is to follow, then to chase, then to catch food in mid-air (very cool) and the chicks chase things other than their parents and then they figure out where dinner comes from :)

All looks to be good, haven't found any problems with the birds when I have been out and haven't had any reports of incidents from spotters or the rehabbers.

Only report I have had so far was yesterday from folks beside the Convention Centre who were pretty sure it was a peregrine chick hanging out briefly on their window ledge on the 17th floor before heading off to another building.  The best part of that report is the 17th floor part - means if it was one of our chicks, they have figured out how to gain altitude.

I suspect that this pair will not be like the family groups we have had in the past couple of years.  I suspect that we will not, or only very very rarely see them on camera again this season.  The last couple of years we have been very fortunate that the chicks returned to the nestbox pretty regularly and we could watch them for a bit longer, pretty sure that won't be the case with this pair.  We've had other nests like that - Hurricane and her band were like that ...

Did they say what buildings this chick was on?  It would help any people who would be fledge watching if they knew or any people who work downtown could maybe take a look.

So far as I know, none of our four 2013 fledgewatchers are out watching right now but as soon as I get more details I will post them here.

Hopefully a watcher (if there are any Radisson watchers out this year) may soon post a possible sighting of Tenzing or Hillary. Perhaps an adult flying above, or delivering food might be spotted nearby.

1253h

Haven't had any reports involving a peregrine in the downtown (or anywhere else) and haven't been able to spot Tenzing or Hillary using the cams.  Interestingly, haven't seen Princess for the last couple of days either (I'm going to check the recordings to be sure) so she may be hanging out with Tenzing - she's done that in the past when one chick goes away and doesn't come back to the ledge (not uncommon), she's disappeared with them leaving her mate, both Ivy and Trey, to babysit the nest/ledge.  Have seen Ivy in and out of the nestbox this morning - pretty standard routine for him.

Thank you for this past info on Princess and her chicks, TPC. I also have not seen Princess for a while, so it helps to think she may be spending time near Tenzing... somewhere.

Ivy is popping in and out of the nestbox like a jack-in-the-box right now, could be Princess is nearby and he wants to do a little pair bonding or it may be he's trying to encourage one of the chicks to join him ...

Ivy is perched and cat-napping on the nestledge right now ... bit of a breeze blowing on him so its likely that Hillary is parked somewhere like Tenzing was when the wind came up after he fledged.

Just got a call and until I can confirm with a photo I can't be positive, but it sounds as though the Radisson chicks, or one of them at least, may be doing some wandering around downtown.  The caller was reporting a peregrine chick on a 17th storey window ledge about 5 blocks away from the Hotel.  Bird landed on the ledge, hung out for a bit and then flew off again and it sounds as thought it flew to a window ledge on another building but up a couple of storeys.  A couple of folks were taking photos so hopefully they will send me a copy or two ...
