Do eggs in general ever hatch prematurely TPC, and survive? I know mammals , humans included do sometimes deliver prematurely but I was just wondering if premature hatching is survivable or if it even actually ever happens.

Princess is on the eggs and she's been doing a little hoovering in between naps.  She's got her head stuck inside so not to interested or not expecting anything from Ivy in the next little bit.  Had a look at the eggs and they all look unchanged though I'm not sure I could spot a pip without optimal light and full cooperation from whomever is incubating.  Haven't seen (or haven't been online to see) her actually listening to the eggs, so I don't suspect hatching is imminent, but happy to wrong if the kids come earlier than expected.  Friday is day 30/31 (depending on the day they actually started incubating) so we're almost there ...

Its currently sunny and 16C in Winnipeg with a forecast high of 24C today, wind is light from the SSE so no breeze getting to the birds today (the box is in the NNW corner of the building).

Princess looks to be a lot happier now that it's cooling off outside. :)

Her panting reminds of my puppy when she was hot. Poor Princess, she needs a sunshade.

Instead of being a sunshade!  ;)

Very hot little birdie on the eggs right now.  Princess is on the eggs with her back to the sun and her head pointed into the nestbox.  But because she moved the eggs out a bit, what little shade in the box is out of reach for her at the moment.  She's panting at the moment but she does close her eyes from time to time.

It is currently 24C in Winnipeg with the wind from the south 20-30kmh (no wind in the box, too sheltered).  Sunset is at 2109 but shade hits the box about 1900 so only three more hours and they will cooling off.  Low tonight of 8C and the winds are to drop to "light".  Sunny and 25C for tomorrow, potentially a bit of rain on the weekend though so that should make it more comfortable for our newest arrivals if they get here by then.

So glad to see our birds busy with the incubation process. Looking forward to the hatching and being able to watch the chicks.

For comparison, they just finished banding the lone chick in Harrisburg PA.

Princess is incubating right now but she's not lying flat on them so not sure if she's bored or if the chicks are starting to make noises in the eggs ...  So far Mum has been doing some contortions while preening and then a little pebble-picking but all rather half-heartedly.

Ooops, spoke too soon, she changed position and is down further on the eggs now, but alert and looking around ...

I am thinking it is still Ivy on the eggs, it is 2:22 here Yukon time.  He has been shifting and shifting, trying to find a comfy spot I think!  Poor Bird!  He looks so hot!

Ivy is still on the eggs, he tried to get them back further in the shade of the box, but I think the scrape is just too deep to do it easily.  So now he's head outside and eggs underneath.  We'll have to see how long he lasts before he has to turn around again ...

... Was downloading video on the weekend, will be uploading them over the next couple of days...
Great, because that may be the only way the Kinderchicklets will be able to see Princess & Ivy & their chicks. Still not able to access the FalconCam here at school. :'(
