We left a bit early this evening too.  I've been fighting a cold for a while and sitting on top of a windy roof wasn't the wisest choice I could have made -- especially the day before we leave on our mini-holiday.

I hope you and Bob have a fabulous looong weekend!  By Tuesday, Froona will be soaring and then you will get to see her fly  :D.  She's only on day 2 of flying and given all the interuptions and drama there...she's no doubt waiting until it's calm and then it can be 'all about her'  ;D

Thank you both for all your reports!

Wow...what a day in the world of a falcon! I guess it's all in a days work for them.  An intruder comes, they defend, two intruder's come, gather the kids and the adults defend.  Natural instinct!  Good to know that the intruders have left the territory!
I'm sure we will read more about it tomorrow!

Thank you so much to all the observers!!!

There doesn't seem to be any end to the drama at that site. I'm exhausted just reading about it, I can't imagine how the watchers are feeling being right there in the middle of it. Many thanks to everyone for the updates.

We left a bit early this evening too.  I've been fighting a cold for a while and sitting on top of a windy roof wasn't the wisest choice I could have made -- especially the day before we leave on our mini-holiday.

Not much to add to the report from Bev.  When we left, the kids were all sitting nicely where they'd been most of the evening, with an adult joining them on and off, and the other adult sitting on top of the aerial of University Terrace.  We all felt that the one on the aerial was one of "our" adults.  Seemed to be calm and non-threatening (or threatened), but was keeping an eye on the kids on the roof.

Bob and I have yet to see Froona fly, but Bev and Mr. Bev tell us it happens, and that she does it well, so we believe them.

I guess until Tuesday,  I'll be running over to the General Store in Beaver Mines, Alberta -- twoonie in hand -- for my 15 minutes of internet time to check in.

Thank you for the update, Carly! I've been watching too, but haven't seen anything on the cams. Can't wait to see the photos of the intruding pair. I'm so glad the juvies are doing well, and especially that Froona is flying so strongly.

I just called Bev and here is the update:

The other pair seems to have left the area.  They do have some pictures of the battle that took place in the air today so it was definitely another pair of peregrines and people have confirmed another pair has been hanging around somewhere near there.

So far Radisson has been confirmed as there but they are not 100% on Damon but they think it is him back on his perch now.

The kids are doing good, Froona was not fed until 4 pm today - the parents made her fly alot - before all the chaos happened - and Bev said her flying is very good.  She has now flown to the highest building and she's looking strong!

She and Mr Bev are headed home to get some well deserved rest and will be back on site at the crack of dawn.  There are watchers staying down there.  She asks if we do see an adult on the nestbox just to see if we can write down a band number but she thinks it's okay now...as the parents on their usual perches.

The falcons always seem to do the unexpected don't they!

Hi Carly, any news yet, I think it has been a couple of hours. Even an all clear sign would do from the watchers.

Good point Linderlou, and if I wasn't so busy panicking I should have thought of that.  These birds migrate, it's almost August..what would be the point at this time of year.

I only saw Bev mention two other sites and that was the Weber with Miss Edmonton and Beau. There was trouble there with an intruder at one time. Then later on Beau disappeared, don't know if related. Then she mentioned Misrecordia nest in Edmonton when she told us how one of their chicks had been moved to the nest in Red Deer after they had lost all but one of their chicks. Don't know if this Misrecordia nest in Edmonton is in the same territory. You wouldn't think that if both have raised young to fledging that there would be a war now. Why would this be happening now? Modifing this to read unless like Carly said some pair just flying through.

Me too, I'm hoping it was just some birds flying through and not realizing this area was taken...  I'll stay up a bit and if no one comes on with an update then I'll call down there.  I just dont' want to distract them if there is trouble.
