Kind of tricky to feed the little one when he/she is lying flat on the gravel. ::)

If I could know who the chick was at banding age I'd consider calling him La-Z-Boy except that I'd have to use the US pronounciation  :D  Maybe "Chesterfield" or "Davenport", maybe "Divan" ... ?

or recliner????????  ::)

The poor little thing was trying very hard to stand up, and did get a few bites that way, but it was just too hard, and the next thing I saw, he/she was on his/her side!  That wobbly stage is pretty cute, and it's amazing how quickly that instinct to reach with the open beak appears!

The only thing sadder than a dry empty nestbox on a rainy day is a wet Princess on eggs ...  :'(
Couldn't agree more.

still just one chick

Glad you managed to get a good look, I was trying to see using the spycam and all I could see was the eggshell and I didn't remember seeing it before.  The other tots will arrive when they are ready  ;)

I'm guessing either due to the rules about intervention with the Peregrines and Endangered Species or you just don't want to interrupt Princess and the brood, it's not possible to re-locate them to the nest box when they are all hatched or a little older.  I know last year the McKenzie Chicks were relocated last year, but, the old nestbox was falling apart, and needed replacement.

We will decide what to do with the Radisson chicks at banding time but at this point, we aren't counting our chicks before they are safely hatched and the Colorado Low has passed by.

As for the McKenzie Seeds chicks - we moved them last year and the year before because they were candidates for the transmitter project.  Nothing to do with the nestbox - the nestbox on the wall has never been a problem.  When we replaced it a couple of years ago it was because it was a good time for us to give them a slightly bigger space with more cover.  Replacing that nestbox is always a case of what is the weather like and can we do it safely and the answer in 2011 was yes to both.

I think (think) that we may just have had hatch 2 - the light coloured thingy just beyond Princess' beak is egg shell and I don't think it is the shell from this morning ... could be wrong but maybe not ...

Rain has stopped west of downtown, probably only for a few minutes - time for a feather shake and a quick bite maybe!!  :)

I can't view the web cam at work.  I can hear the rain coming down so hard which make me wonder if it is draining well in the ledge.  I keep thinking about June 8,2008 but I do believe the rain was a lot harder and a lot more that day.

I meant June 6, 2008.   :-[
