Thanks, TPC, for the updates of McDermot's travels.  I find that very interesting.

I find it so interesting to hear about the Peregrine's personnalities. ::) Really fascinating. Sometimes we tend to think only our cats and dogs have distinct personnalities but the more I listen to people's stories the more I realize that all animals are unique. Very cool.  :)

Got a little update on McDermot's travels and he is still returning to the area around the Radisson very regularly but he is also travelling frequently north, south and west of the City.  North to Oak Hammock, west quite a ways north of the Trans-Canada area and south to the St Norbert area where there are lots of seagulls based on a bend in the river.  Nothing to the east which is interesting but not altogether surprising from my experiences with the birds - just not much out that way that appeals to them.

Two of the kids flying over Smith St. by the Radisson this morning about 6 am. One was yelling, so I'm betting that was Jubilee.

;D ;D ;D Another big "Thank You, bccs" for posting a sighting of our Radisson Royals. After reading your post, the yelling you may have heard was me.  :) :-*

When Dennis has his calendar photos ready for the printing press, he takes orders then, TM. He will post when he is taking orders and then I think you can pre-order as many as you want to... usually sometime in the fall, if I recall. :)

Dennis, it looks like you have a wonderful collection of photos to choose from for a 2013 calendar? Is this something you are planning to offer again this year Dennis?

- remember, birds can be taken from the wild on migration in other places in Canada and in the USA.  I selfishly want to keep our birds in the wild, so I don't post specifics unless we no longer need to worry about the bird (ie, it has died) anymore.  Hope that makes sense ...

Absolutely, it makes a lot of sense.

It's horrible to realize anything posted on the forum could be used for nefarious purposes!

Okay now I'm quoting in double... Have just come back from holidays, my apologies to all.  :-\

Totally agree! A very wise decision.

Makes a lot of sense, TPC! Although I love to hear anything about where our birds are, especially once they head south, I'd rather hear fewer specifics and know that they're safe!  ;)

McDermot has already been travelling out of the City according to his transmitter, so likely too are all his sibs.  They fledged at the end of June and usually offspring hang out for 6-8 weeks after fledging before heading out on their own.  We occasionally see a chick or two later in the fall before migration but most leave the City and that's the last we see of them for the year.

I am assuming the researcher is being more forth coming about the whereabouts of all the chicks with transmitters this year.  I think that is good news for all of the forum members because I am sure we are all interested, we didn't get a lot of info last year about Rain and Rosser before they migrated.  :)

That was probably my fault RCF - until the birds started moving out of the area immediately around Brandon, I didn't post anything since they kept coming back to the nestsite and your reports and Rose's were more interesting.  When they did leave, they moved very fast out of the area and that's when I posted their locations.  There is also a delay on the locations - both because the information is downloaded at regular intervals (only a couple times a week) and then I hold it until I am sure they chicks have moved on.  We spend alot of effort to keep them safe at the nestsites and since we have information on them en-route, I am trying to do the same thing - remember, birds can be taken from the wild on migration in other places in Canada and in the USA.  I selfishly want to keep our birds in the wild, so I don't post specifics unless we no longer need to worry about the bird (ie, it has died) anymore.  Hope that makes sense ...
