I feel sorry for poor Ivy.  ??? He tries so hard to cover the little ones and they complain bitterly since they are so crowded under him.  ::) He keeps having to get up to look at them when they are complaining, as if to say he is trying his best ???.  Then Mom comes back, chases him away and covers up the chicks. :)

City of Winnipeg
2:26 PM CDT Saturday 28 May 2011
Tornado watch for
City of Winnipeg continued

Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds or weak tornadoes. These types of funnel clouds form out of large cumulus clouds or very weak thunderstorms and normally do not have the energy to reach the ground. However one or two of these funnels may briefly touch down and can become destructive over a very small area. Treat all funnel clouds and tornadoes seriously and avoid when possible. Should one develop overhead take shelter until it dissipates. Remember these funnel clouds will normally appear with little or no warning.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation closely. Please continue to monitor your local media or weatheradio for further updates.

Should you spot a funnel cloud or tornado...And only if it is safe to do so...You can call 1-800-239-0484 to report your sighting. Please note this phone number is for reporting severe weather only.

The combination of a weak low pressure system moving across Southern Manitoba, daytime heating and moist unstable airmass produced favorite conditions for the development of funnel clouds today. A few reports of funnel clouds and pea to marble sized hail have already been received from various locations of Southern Manitoba.

Typically in these weather conditions funnel clouds form in the middle of the afternoon and dissipate early in the evening.

Here comes Dad for a cuddle, but sounds like the chicks want food!  One little one is especially vocal! :o

Just tuned in and chickpile is uncovered in the warm sun.  I can hear Princess putting in an order for take-out.  Can't see the babies too well because of the light on the box right now, but looks like they're enjoying the sun.

:) Just watched a feeding. Princess took the remains away. Chicks like all babies, human or our beloved Royal chicks, want to nap. They try to go night night and been coming up and down as if they are waiting for Mom to "cover" them up for their nap. Don't seem to be able to settle down. Maybe they need a lullaby.  ??? :)

Another meal just came in but this one was whole...head and all.  Princes is getting it ready right now to feed the little ones.  Can't really see what she is doing which suits me fine.  You just see here head every so often.  She has it ready to feed them now.  The chicks don't look too intersted.  Oh there they go now. Can only see three little heads tho.  The fourth one is kind of hidded by the 3 in front.

Just got up and went to the cam an there was a feeding going on.  What a nice treat first thing in the morning.  Who ever was feeding left with the remains.  Ivy flew in and tried to cover the chicks. I don't think it even lasted a minute and Princess was there sternly squawking and off Ivy went. Mom has chick all covered now.  They are just the greatest to watch.

Different ID rules for Brandon and the Radisson ...

at the Radisson check out the heads - if you can see any light coloured feathers on the head (mostly at the back and nape of the neck) that  is Princess.  If the head is fully black, that is Ivy.

in Brandon, Brooklyn the male is neon white on his breast and cheek patches, Hurricane's cheek patches are more blurry and she isn't that neon white colour.

Hope this helps!

Thx, TPC.....I was totally confused......in the wrong nest!!!   ::)

Princess has been trying to have a preen of way back on one wing, and is often having to break to stuff back another noisy, restless little one.
Finally let out a bit of a squawk.  I think she has decided the squirming and noise are uncalled for so close to bedtime.  Perhaps a bedtime snack has been requested.

Mama is wise in these things but we have to give Ivy points for effort! :)

With the weather turning ugly (windy & wet) I'm not surprised that she is not letting Ivy spend some time on the kids, she'll want to be very sure that they stay dry and warm, and though he's enthusiastic, he's really not big enough ... poor Ivy ...

Little chick pile has just been fed. Ivy came slowly in and is trying to cover them as best he can.  ;D

Will see how long mama gives him with her babies. ;)

Not long, she is back and he was henpecked till he got up and left.  :-\
