On one of the eagle sites, they call it the 'mumbrella'......

That should go in the Phanatics Dictionary.
Good idea, rcf.  Go for it!

Thought it was Ivy grabbing some time but wasn't sure til 30 seconds later the squawking started and in she came. He tried to stay an extra second but then  ::)  off he went.

Even with all TPC's excellent explanations, I still have trouble telling them apart unless I see them together. I thought the bird that came in the nest had neon white but them once he was on the chicks the white seemed blurry.

Different ID rules for Brandon and the Radisson ...

at the Radisson check out the heads - if you can see any light coloured feathers on the head (mostly at the back and nape of the neck) that  is Princess.  If the head is fully black, that is Ivy.

in Brandon, Brooklyn the male is neon white on his breast and cheek patches, Hurricane's cheek patches are more blurry and she isn't that neon white colour.

Hope this helps!

And now lunch time......Mom & Dad keep their little tummies full. Luv the audio especially the chirping while feeding. "Hurry, open up"!   ;D

Thanks Eye Spy and everyone else concerned.

A snack arrived and Princess fed and flew off with the leftovers. In comes Ivy and he gets a couple of minutes to snuggle with his babies when Princess is back squawking.......he made a fast exit!

1904 hrs

Ivy playing umbrella with his wings full spread out ... but nor really in the right place to shade his bairns.  It was neat watching them watch him as he walked around them a minute ago.

Love it, MUMBRELLA! ;D

Meal delivery just arrived. One little chick was asleep and waited for the actual feeding to begin to stick up his head. Princess is meticulous in ensuring that every one has some food. She is such a great mom. :D

I am so fascinated with how gentle these birds are with their young(any animal I guess is) but this is mother and son having offspring so would they also have the battle of territory with their offspring if one comes back in another year or so to take up residence at the Radisson?

We typically don't have big fights, some "encouragement" but no real fights.  And we have had sons taking over the Radisson site for 20 years but they have always been when Dad doesn't come home, the son takes over.

And , oh my, the sons take over from the dad. literally, and oh yea the boys loves their mother. wow, what a mixed up family, , kinda like the Tudors and their history,
