Jadoo, I like the way you think! I'm going to follow your lead and think of the more positive possibilities!

1045 hrs - looks like Ivy is on his platform again .... no sign of Princess, could mean she is at the nestbox ...

At what date do we actually give up hope on Trey's return this year?   :'(

I just do not want to think the worst.

...no need to ever do that - we can always imagine he found another lovely female who lured him away (hussy), and he has decided that the trip up here was just tooooo long (and often toooo cold whilst trying to nest...)

I just do not want to think the worst.

Didn't TPC say something last week about a return "within the next two weeks" (from then, of course) would still be within the normal range for Manitoba peregrines?  ???

He could turn up tomorrow, next week, next month, next year or not at all ... there really is no way of telling.

Zeus out in Brandon took a sabbatical in 2007 and Screech was paired with Holly that year.  Zeus came back the following year to mate with Holly again then he returned last year to mate with Hurricane. And he's a year older than Trey.  Also while we assume Hurricane has returned, we don't know for sure, and there has been no sign of Zeus yet.  T2 returned to Grand Forks just recently (after Jules & Princess I believe) but no male there yet and she's had two - Bear & Roosevelt - in the last two years and both are young enough they should be back so long as they haven't met with an accident.

So he could be back or not, no real timeline here ...

In the midst of all this "X-rated activity" and canoodling, I hope that Princess has decided that nesting on the West would be the thing to do this year! If we're expecting her to lay eggs in a couple of weeks, how far ahead should we expect her to get busy and prepare the nest?

Ivy has been making and refining his yo-honking size scrape in the nestbox, so far I haven't seen him doing that anywhere else and can't easily tell if there has been any disturbance of the gravel (amid the jungle of vegetation) on the nestledge.  So, so far, so good.  Keep your fingers crossed and do the chant  ;)

I too keep hoping for word of Trey  :-\ - sure would be nice if some sort of microchip could be attached to their ID bands for tracking purposes!!  :D

Microchip is only good if you can get to within a few feet of him ... think of Spot at the vet, need to run the scanner right over the chip to get a reading.  Band numbers work find so long as he returns.

Is there any way of finding out if Trey is okay or where he may be? Is there anyway of knowing where the birds go for the winter months?

I'm afraid the only way to find out about Trey is if he turns up here or if someone spots him somewhere else.  He doesn't have a radio transmitter on him (on a very few do across Canada and the US) so we have to rely on someone being able to read his leg bands.  If he turns up here, we will find him easily enough.  If he has decided to take a sabbatical then we may see him next year or someone else may read his band on his travels.  If he has died and if someone finds his body, then his band number will probably be reported and we will hear about it eventually.  If he has been injured, we will hear about it, the band number again will be reported.  Chances are though, we will never hear anything about him if he has died, its a long way down and back up again and we have no idea where he travels and most birds are never found.

And Princess is just the strong (bossy, bitchy) female to whip Ivy into shape!  ;)   Mind you, I haven't totally given up hope of seeing Trey show up, despite the odds.

Maybe Trey is in Birdy Heaven........Princess will have to show Ivy what it is all about if he is to become a father himself!. They always say behind every male is a good female.

But wow, it is one beautiful day out there!! ;D

Sunshine, (mostly) clear blue sky, even above-normal temperatures in the forecast -- who could ask for more? Won't be long before you're really enjoying that rooftop, Bccs!  ;D
