Bit of excitement at the nestbox this morning. First, Faith's routine - she hangs out at the box in the morning and generally takes off and we don't see her on camera all afternoon or evening. Where she is going, can't say for sure. Some of that time is for sure near the nestbox just off camera, some of it will be off hunting as she doesn't have a boyfriend to tempt her with offerings. This is where the excitement came in today. Right about the middle of what would have been an ordinary morning for Faith, suddenly there was a very fast, much smaller looking peregrine making bombing runs at her as she sat on and in the nestbox. After a couple of minutes, she was off, with new bird in hot pursuit heading north at what Dennis describes as Mach 4. Faith returned shortly thereafter but only for a couple of minutes and then she was off and away from the box again and she hasn't been back. However, for the first time in a few days, Hart turned up in the nestbox and played in the scrape for about 90 seconds before he too was off and away. Fortunately, it is easy to ID Hart - he has a couple of cute feather patterns that are distinctive but he also his coloured band is on the opposite leg from Ty and though both have black bands the pattern of letters/numbers is very different in shape, so even when we can't ready the letters/numbers we can tell the two birds apart, even if we can't tell (yet) who the new bird is.
