Dennis was watching the cam this afternoon and he noticed a bird that looked unfamiliar - well, not really unfamiliar, rather not Hart or Faith.  Very handsome bird with a black band on the correct leg so we think it MIGHT be Ty home.  Last year Ty and Beatrix both arrived home on March 28th.  We'll keep trying to get an ID.

Faith is still hanging out at the nestbox/nestsite.  Hangs out on camera at the box in the mornings then usually disappears for the rest of the day.  Hart came by this morning and did some renos in the nestbox, didn't see them together, but one after another so I imagine they saw each other.   And this after Dennis caught Hart and Joli canoodling at Logan!!  :o

Bit of excitement at the nestbox this morning.  First, Faith's routine - she hangs out at the box in the morning and generally takes off and we don't see her on camera all afternoon or evening.  Where she is going, can't say for sure.  Some of that time is for sure near the nestbox just off camera, some of it will be off hunting as she doesn't have a boyfriend to tempt her with offerings.  This is where the excitement came in today.  Right about the middle of what would have been an ordinary morning for Faith, suddenly there was a very fast, much smaller looking peregrine making bombing runs at her as she sat on and in the nestbox.  After a couple of minutes, she was off, with new bird in hot pursuit heading north at what Dennis describes as Mach 4.  Faith returned shortly thereafter but only for a couple of minutes and then she was off and away from the box again and she hasn't been back.  However, for the first time in a few days, Hart turned up in the nestbox and played in the scrape for about 90 seconds before he too was off and away.  Fortunately, it is easy to ID Hart - he has a couple of cute feather patterns that are distinctive but he also his coloured band is on the opposite leg from Ty and though both have black bands the pattern of letters/numbers is very different in shape, so even when we can't ready the letters/numbers we can tell the two birds apart, even if we can't tell (yet) who the new bird is.

I love Beatrix as a mom, she makes it seem so easy and her kids are, already, doing well, and I'm looking forward to seeing her flying over Winnipeg again but I must say, the more I watch young Faith from Duluth, the more I like her.  She reminds me of Trey, not in appearance (she's very different) but in her behaviour at the nestbox - she's, to be anthropomorphic, very house-proud.  Hangs out at the nestbox, works on her scrape, does housecleaning on the pebbles then goes back and waits ever so patiently on the edge or top of the box.  Love to see her be successful somewhere - here because Beatrix decides to take a year off or nests elsewhere or because Beatrix returns and Faith is pushed out.  Tough to like two females that have a connection to a particular nestbox ...

Yesterday evening, on bird was hanging out on the SE corner of the Bleachers. It was there for a long time. Then it flew off to the west where it disappeared for a short time. It later ended up on the SW corner of the Diner.

On a cloudy overcast Thursday, we checked out the site after work, and as we approached it looked like three falcons were flying around. Two very close to each other and one a little behind, watching the goings on. Once we got there, there was only one bird sitting on the NE corner of the Diner. Snapped a few photos, when I spotted something circling way, way up high. Managed to snap a recognizable photo of a bald eagle.

On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon, we visited and one lone bird was sitting on the NE corner of the Diner.

Well, if it is Joli back at Logan, it looks like Hart is not quite ready to give up his new lady friend ...

Hatchings are great, but matchings are much more entertaining!!  ;D

Well now that it looks as though Joli has likely returned to Logan (ID still pending), Faith is on her own at West Winnipeg ... at least for the time being ...

Our 2015 resident pair haven't returned here yet but there has been a visit by Hart and a ladyfriend we haven't been able to identify yet.  For the moment, because we have had problems in the past with cross-postings and confusion about who's where in the spring, I going to keep this thread open for Ty and Beatrix.  If it turns out that Hart and whomever is his mate this year take over this nestsite, we'll move their thread over.

Hart and his lady friend were first seen at the Logan site this morning - Dennis followed them to West Winnipeg for their visit.  They may or may not return, they may just have been in the midst of a courtship flight, or checking out real estate or checking out the neighbours (who obviously weren't home). We've not seen Hart or Joli at this nestsite before so it was interesting that they should turn up there.  Might be the timing though, West Winnipeg is often home pretty fast.  Could be that tomorrow will have other surprises.  Just to make it a hat trick, Hart turned up at the Radisson this morning as well, much to the displeasure of the Radisson male!!

It was a busy location here today.  Before the peregrines arrived there were a pair of merlins at the nestbox followed immediately by a pair of crows.  Figures, they were probably in the midst of a dispute over the/a crows' nest.  The peregrines turned up about a 1/2 hour later.
