We are starting to make plans for banding at the Radisson which because of the east side requires a little extra arranging.  Right now we are looking at early next week and yes, I will be sure to post a date and time when we have it nailed down.  And yes, the plan is to broadcast the banding live as per usual.

I look forward to the banding, though it seems to me a scary task for you. O.K. I am going to ask, After banding, is it possible to place them into the West nestbox? Would Mom and Dad follow? Just curious.  ::)

oooooh wouldn't that be nice! - somehow I think the answer will be 'No' though...with many good reasons of course!  ;)

We are still trying to work out some technical planning details but yes, we have been considering a move "upstairs" ...

Chronology so far this morning

0706h - first meal
lots of scooting about and when one of the adults returned about an hour after breakfast one chick decided to go hang out with "parent"
kids are now hanging out in the shade behind the wall on the concrete section of the ledge

Weather for today

Day - Overcast in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 24C. Winds from the SSW at 5 to 15 km/h.
Night - Mostly cloudy in the evening, then clear. Low of 14C. Winds from the SSW at 10 to 15 km/h.

Hmmm, think someone forgot to tell the sun this morning he was "off-duty" ... Environment Canada & Weather Network say some clouds high 25-26C

2140h
Radisson chicks are up then sprawled out asleep.  Might get one meal in before the light goes entirely but I suspect not given the size of their last meal!  :o

- Princess came in with a huge meal and when Ivy landed on the edge of the ledge, she blocked him from "seeing" the chicks, literally moved so that her back was between him and the kids - this bird has a grudge this year ...

It takes a Princess to have a grudge against Ivy.  It was her fault they lost a chick due to envrionamental conditions at her chosen nest site.

Why do you think Princess is giving Ivy a hard time?  Is she exhibiting instinctual over protectiveness.

Hmmmmm, well, if we look at the geneology, it could be that mama is spanking sonny's bumbalino.
But given Princess's  disposition, she is just following her personality and is being a ....... ;D

Princess, long may she reign  :-*

Princess is twitchy from weather and cranky from old age.

Hmmm.  I don't blame her!

It could be over-protectiveness, Hurricane has been much more protective this year than I remember her being last year (but I could be wrong).  Jules is protective of the chicks but not when it comes to Beau, he gets to hang out with them at night though she is still with them 95% of the time.  Or heck, it could be that the weather is making her twitchy, she knows she lost a chick and wants to hedge her bets.  Or perhaps this is her behaviour on the nestledge, seems to me that she was much like this in 2009 with Trey.  Now Trey didn't have the driving urge to hang with the kids that Ivy seems to have.  Ivy's been a little distracted this year as well, he's been very busy defending the Radisson from Cowboy and Joli in particular, but maybe also from Pam's birds though I don't know if they have been seen recently.  Heck, it could be that she's getting crankier in her old age ...

Chicks are huddled against the ledge on the right hand side, in the little bit of shade there is from the ledge. Hard to see them at first. Looks as if there may be some left over "breakfast" in the bottom corner of the ledge.

Note about the current camera angle:

I've set the cam so that it is easy to scroll up/down the ledge without having to do lots of zooming or panning to cover most of the area.  Will see if this makes it easier to keep the chicks in sight and decent focus.  Small adjustments require zooming all the way "in" then zooming "out" to check and then repeating until you have close to what you want.  This level of zoom gives folks detail on the chicks and adults when they are in camera range but still covers large segments of the ledge.  Eventually we will have to zoom out more, but for the moment, this seems to give us the best of both ...
