We have names for the Brandon male chicks ...
Rain - in honour of the weather this year - Annual rainfall for Brandon (since 1971) is 373.1mm. The annual rainfall for March through June is 119.7mm. From March to June this year, 298mm of rain has fallen - 152mm of which fell since the first Brandon chick hatched on June 2nd. Fortunately, neither the peregrines nor Brandon had to contend with the June 2nd, 1953 storm that dropped 80mm of rain in one day in Brandon!! Hopefully his new name will bring him luck and it will be sunny skies and dry weather ahead for him.
Rosser - in honour of the street that runs just south of McKenzie Seeds and which appears to be the street in our records that has the most observations and which provides the best view of the nestbox from the ground. RCF tells me that Rosser Avenue was named after Thomas Lafayette (Tex) Rosser and here is his biography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_L._Rosser. Hopefully our Rosser will also be known for his "hit and run raids", definitely a good skill for a peregrine!
