OH! What a shocking way to find out Enraptured! - But the bright side is that you were lucky to be spared the agony of watching & waiting as the rain poured down, the water rose more and more, the nestbox flooded and a completely drenched Princess never moved off those chicks. It's been a horrid morning, very exhausting and sad. This forum has been really helpful knowing there are so many people out there feeling the exact same grief.
All very true, Ballywing. I just read through all the posts of the morning and I'm glad everyone had eachother to share the shock, hopes, prayer, and eventual tragedy. I will greatly miss this little community and our love and enjoyment of Princess, Trey and their chicks. It has been a privilege to have looked in on and spend so much time watching them and encouraging them along during the past few weeks.
My heart and thoughts go out to all, but especially to Tracy and all the team who work so hard on top of their daily jobs to care for, protect, and increase the Peregrine population, and of course, bring us the view into the Peregrine world. It warms my heart to know that so many were motivated to rescue the chicks and that the fire department and all involved put in such a great effort. Thanks to all.
I'll check in later and catch up again with all of us as we deal with such a sad loss and hopefully celebrate, too, some of the lovely moments we've had with the chicks and Princess and Trey.
Bye for now, with a heavy heart, all the best to everyone as we come to terms with our loss. I really hope Princess and Trey are okay. What a sad and shocking turn of events for them ...
I wonder if Princess knew the state of the chicks or if she'll see the rescue attempt as the turning point?... My heart goes out to her and Trey, and well, everyone involved.
