I was wondering, is this unusual behaviour, TPC, for the chicks to return frequently to the nestbox after fledging?
I don't recall the Radisson chicks ever doing this.

Different sites, different rules.  The Radisson has alot more places for the chicks to go play on, not so many in West Winnipeg and the West Winnipeg site has alot more space for the chicks to do all sorts of things - practice jumping up/down, flying, landings/take-offs, etc.  Probably why the chicks come back to hang out near the box, just a really nice place to hang-out.  Their parents visit the spot all through the breeding season, one of the reasons we put the nestbox there.

None of this would have been possible with-out you Alli.  You have given us the inspiration to strive to be a litttle better, to try a little harder, and aim a little higher.  We are all better people, better birds, and better get a bucket, cause I'm gonna hurl......

What a day BccS, Dennis, Eye-spy and little-spy!  From your post B, it really sounds like the WW family are doing very well and that's great news, especially for next season (I can't believe I just wrote next season). 

I'm absolutely thrilled about what happened this year!  Yes, there were many questions, comments and remarks in the beginning, but, look what happened in the end!

So, what happened today you ask??
It was grand. Quiet for the first hour or so and then the kids started showing off their flying skills. And skillful they have become. Talon touching, sideways flying, aerobatics, catching thermals, you name it, they pretty much did it. Hard to believe that they've only been flying for just over a week.
As TPC said, very hot out there, but it was worth the discomfort. Dennis again got some outstanding photos, Eye-spy was entertaining and Little spy was a joy.
I can't believe that I'll be going directly to work tomorrow and not going out there to see the family.
Thanks to all who were there today, nice to have so much company.

Nothing to worry about kinderchick.  Every year we have one that just loves the nestbox and comes back to lay down in it and nap..it's usually one of the girls that does it...

All I wan to knwo about the date......Was that person blindfolded until you got to the site?

She was too young to see over the dashboard, even better than a blindfold

She is one of the sweetest girls you could ever meet.  And she keeps Eye-spy on his toes.  She also has him wrapped around her little finger.

1115 hrs (local) - all quiet on the western front.  Hot has Hades out there but no one has come to the box to get out of the sun - now that the sun is higher in the sky, not so much shade at this time of day as there used to be.  Later in the afternoon, I'm pretty sure we'll get a look at one or two of them again napping in the nestbox shade on the ledges ... so nice to see, the Radisson chicks were not nearly as accommodating!
