My, but Princess is one very drenched Mom.  :(  Such a miserable rain for the family but at least there isn't a lot laying around........drain must be handling it. Sure hope it soon lets up.

Thanks TPC - Princess is such a great MoM!  :-* But in this case it would be nice if Trey could abandon his 'guard station' for a bit and help out with umbrella duty.  :-\

Tracy, at banding do you anticipate removing the bin?

That's the plan at the moment - we'll leave the gravel there though ...

Speaking of banding - any 'Ballpark' ideas on dates yet TPC - Just so any of us who want to be there can maybe arrange to try and ......be there!!  ;D

Haven't heard back from DA Matthews yet, but yes, I do know what the range is and will be sure to post in plenty of time for y'all to make tentative plans.

Supposed to end early this evening, then 40% chance for the next few days. I wonder if Princess ever dreams about the Penthouse nestbox she did not choose....with a roof! :-\
**TPC - they're a bit older now, over 10 days - so if the kids get a bit wet/cool can they handle it better at this point??  ???

They are in much better shape at this age than TLC were last year.  You've all seen the chicks uncovered for most of the last couple of days, that's not because it was warm and windless here, but rather because they are able to thermoregulate (and getting better at it every day) and its dry.  The chick piles help with the warmth as well.  The could make it though light, brief rainshowers but all day drizzle/light rain they still need help with hence Princess getting soaking wet yet again.  But the chicks look fine, exactly as I would expect them to look at this age in this weather.  Princess is on them because she's bigger, but Trey won't be far away - he wasn't last year on June 6th and he won't be today, if only so he can go kill something whenever the chicks get too rowdy.

Am I not remembering correctly or was there a light on the nestbox last year? Or maybe that was the other side of the building - but I seem to remember being able to see the nest at night, not the total darkness that there is now. Not the glare that Elk River has, but enough light to be able to see the chicks.

That was the nestbox on the roof and it was some light from the setting sun (box faces west) and glow from the City but most frequently from all the thunder/lightning storms we had that year.  It was like a strobe light!!!

Ya I think they do that bigbird -  ::) - they don't have the same 'Taboos' that humans do. Last year Princess's son 'tried it on' with her but she opted for her Rockstar Trey.  ;D

Bigbird, it's great that you want to find out more about our well loved pair!  There is very good information and answers to your questions about them in this forum on a different thread:
http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/projects/pfrp/forum/programs/index.php/topic,16.0.html
TPC gives us a lot of information on her blog (http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/projects/pfrp/peregrinations/), and throughout this forum as new questions come up. So much for us all to learn!

That's what i was reading, i just wanted to make sure i understood correctly that he was mating with his mother.....

Just trying to get caught up on the history here, am i correct to assume that in previous years Trey was paired with his mother? :o

Who comes back first each year? Do they fly away together and come back together or do they just hang around and wait to see who they are mating with this year?

Flippin' rain just keeps coming!!!!!  >:(- This is one miserable day for them - it's steady rain but not a heavy downpour at least. And it's a good thing the chicks aren't any bigger!!! A few more hours then it should be stopping.  8)

As I watched the chicks being fed copious amounts of food and then swallow without chewing, they looked like water ballons with wings and a head.  No wonder they can't stand up.  Then have all three under Princess, you could see her rise up on one side, then another.  You could almost hear her say, "Knock it off!"

Princess will be very happy when the rain stops....let's all hope that it does stop soon, LIKE RIGHT NOW!!
