Thanks everybody! I feel so special now...it took a while, I am more of an observer!Time for me to call it a night. I hope the weather stations are wrong and it doesn't get as bad as they are saying.
I was wondering if the down coat is shed as the adult feathers grow in or does it become an undercoat?
How soon do their beaks gain any colour? I haven't seen the chicks in several days (missed banding, too, ) and I can't believe how much they've grown and gained in feathers. The one on the vent, though...I have such a hard time making out his head from his body -- some beak colour would be nice!
