Well congratulations Helen b, post more and you will get further alone in the process lol  Yeah the chicks are okay, you can see the wind ruffling their feathers from time to time. But all in all they are good.

just came back from downtown Winnipeg and the wind was blowing lots and the rain was much gentler but still coming down.  Hoping for the nest that the weather will break, mist okay but please no more wind.

The chicks are now all huddled together on the wall very wet but appear okay.

Does the down also keep the rain off their little bodies?

Thansk you to those who welcomed me as a hatchling.

Good to see them all huddled together to stay warm!  Very cute as they want to be so independent...ie:  Kings or Queen of the world

And two if not all three have their heads tucked under their wings, so adult and so cute in half-fuzzies!

The three chicks are still huddled together against the wall. They look soaking wet but we know they have the feathers below to keep em warm.

guess they all listened and huddled up at the wall.  it's nice they are all together so we get this close-up.

The wall is great, but I think either the north or south corner might be better.  South corner seems to be facing into the wind that's blowing them but its wetter than the north corner if they wanted to go belly-down (which they appear to be doing now).  North corner has higher gravel (not by much, maybe a cm at this point) but it will be drier.  But I can't tell how the wind is blowing there and if it might be a bigger problem curling around that corner than where they are now.  Fortunately, no one seems to want to play in the open - small mercies and I am happy to take them!!

Watch the chicks, the wind actually blows one a few feet across the ledge - think Trey-flip!!  The kids need to find a corner again ...

Interesting close-up a few minutes ago. This is the first time I've seen greenery up there! Is that fallen tree branches from all this wind and rain? (although don't know where they would come from in downtown Winnipeg!) Or do the chicks actually have a wee little forest beginning to grow up there?! ??? (LOL) That would certainly give them some shade on the hot sunny days! ;D

Sand/dirt debris accumulates on this roof, that's why the peregrines nest on it, the debris gives them a substrate for their nest scrape.  The other thing the substrate does is collect seeds so we always have some vegetation appearing at this time of the year.  It gets killed off/cut back with the winter months and usually in the late summer when there just isn't enough rainfall (might not be a problem this year) to keep them hydrated in such thin "soil".  If you are seeing "branches" think bird limbs not tree limbs  ;)  Its the debris from past meals mostly - bones, some wings.  Doesn't mean something else couldn't have landed there, but it is 14 stories up, and that's a bit high for flying debris to travel through the downtown canyons.  If I see something "that doesn't belong here", I'll certainly point it out to y'all however!

Good to see all three chicks in the corner.  At one time I could only see 2.  It kind of looked like one was on the ledge above the chicks.  Something is there not sure what it is.
Poor chicks look so wet and not very happy.
Tracy, will this rain and cooler weather affect them in a bad way...like make them sick?

Can't say, but I don't suspect so.  They were healthy when we banded them, they are eating well, they may be damp right now but they are pretty sheltered by the building from most of the ick, still means they are wet and blown on but they look to be doing quite well - hanging out near the wall and not playing the flap-flap game other than to keep dry/warm.  So long as they stay smart until late Sunday, they'll be past the scary weather part.  Winds drop starting Monday which will be better if someone decides to try flying early ...

those are seriously sodden chicks.  but they seem fine with it and going about their normal routine.  One on the drain cap, girl eating leftovers, other boy by the wall.

and yeah, I'm wondering what the green looking stuff is, too.   ???
