We had a great view today of Princess swooping down from the tower on top of the Radisson, and coming up with a pigeon, which she took straight to the nestbox.  Fun!

Hey, TPC -- I hope you'll be sure to let us know if you find any mouse carcasses in the nestbox -- those CBC commenters are bound and determined that our chicks are eating mice.  ;)

I read that in Montreal, they used some sort of netting to block the front of their box so the chicks wouldn't 'escape' over the edge as they were being collected for banding. Do we have some sort of safety blocker TPC  ???

Nope, just the hardwiring for self-preservation that the chicks possess ... but seriously, when the parents start freaking because we are on the roof, the chicks tend to head for cover and that is exactly where we want them.  Its just easier if they are already there because they are trying to get out of the sun.

And no worries folks, we've done this lots of times and I can't think of the last time we had a problem (knock on wood) get the chicks, I just like to hedge my bets when it comes to promising y'all a time for the banding!

Beside the video cam box there is a posting of Watch Live, the Banding of the Falcon Chicks, Wednesday at 2PM. Just hope the soccer doesn't interfere and we get to watch.

So we can watch the banding live?  Will that be on the same cam site as the nestbox cam or is it hosted on another site?  And can we get a youtube version too?  I don't know if I can get away with watching the chicks at work...

It will be on the main CBC Manitoba/Shaw FalconCam site and yes, there will be a video on YouTube and maybe even the CBC site as well after the fact.  Will try to get a video up as quickly as possible so that everyone who couldn't watch in the afternoon won't be left out for too too long.

TPC, make no mistake, the person(s) hoisting you up will, in fact, have to pullll hard...
gemcity, I don't think that TPC will need to be hoisted up this year. The peregrines nested in the west nestbox, so a swing-stage will not be necessary this year. She can access the nestbox from the roof. :D

Forecast is calling for sun and high of 28. Think you might get your wish. ;D
What time is the banding and will we be be able to watch it live ??

Banding is estimated to start at 2pm but that will depend on how easy it will be to retrieve the chicks from the box.  And Larry is handling the "live" part  ;D

TPC, make no mistake, the person(s) hoisting you up will, in fact, have to pullll hard because I can say, without a doubt, ALL of us on the forum will be with you in some way.  ;D ;D  Larry, we are counting on you, with confidence. Both of you have done it before and will do it again. We won't be disappointed.  :-* :-*

We'll be watching!  And thanks, for the "live" part Larry! Now, do you think you could just ask the soccer people to put their game on hold, so we don't miss the banding?! ::) :P ;) :D

Thanks Allikat  :)- and do we know where Princess and Ivy's terrritory begins and ends?  And how does that work when Ivy used to be in the West Wpg. territory before he dumped Jules ??? :o ???

Sorry for the delay in answering this, work-work got came first this week ...

Edges of the Radisson territory fluctuate a bit depending on the tolerance of the resident pair - usually runs east to about Lagimodiere, but that may be because there isn't a suitable nestsite in the east.  Runs south to McGillivray - this is a kinda hard-and-fast that was enforced when there was a University site - hopefully we will have one again once the University has finished some more of its construction at which time we may be able to reinstall a nestbox there again.  To the west, boundary seems to be about the Polo Park area, that's where we have seen individuals of both pairs from time to time - the West Winnipeg territory appears to run parallel to the Radisson territory Polo Park & Route 90 south and west to the Perimeter Hwy.  North boundary for Radisson territory is soft at the moment - we have had young birds from all nest/hack sites seen north of the Radisson territory, but there the Radisson pair seem to discourage long-term or potential nestsites north of them so it could be that they see their territory running north to the perimeter but since they discourage year-round, they haven't had to fight to establish this boundary.

So basically look at the map of the city and the middle part is theirs'  ;D
