Poor SW, she's had a wet 24 hours but she kept the chick and the eggs dry and warm!  You have to love the Pefa, they are just awesome parents!

That is one very wet mama bird, just incredibly tight to the brood.
I hope that gravel is well drained.

We have a hatch or two here!  It's pouring rain and SW is soaking wet so we can't see yet how many but egg shells are around her!

Poor girl she is wet and tired!  Hopefully in the morning we will be able to see how many and hopefully it will be dry for them  :-*

A few people posted shots of three eggs from 6 am this morning so I'm not sure if the person who saw 2 might not be mistaken.  It happens, sometimes from the angle 2 eggs can look like one, hopefully all is well.  They are due to hatch soon so we'll know !

I am wondering if any of the eggs got chilled or froze? :-\ In looking back at previous photos, I noticed snow in the nest box.

Well not good news, that pipped egg wasn't hatched 5 days later and this morning reports say only 2 eggs in the nestbox now.  One they had disposed of early in the game to bring it down to 3, now down to 2.

I am waiting to see if she gets up to confirm if it's 2 or 3 still.

Good news about the first "pip", carly!  :) Can you believe that I just learned what that meant only a few days ago! ::) And thanks for posting a reassuring comment about the cables that I am seeing in the photos. I was a bit concerned about them myself.

First pip reported at CMNH!

First Pip

Scott Wright phoned around noon, Monday April 19th, 2010 to say that he observed a small pip in one of the eggs. It usually takes 24 - 48 hours from pip to hatch so stay tuned to the Falconcam over the next two days to see the hatch. Watch for Scott's updates in his thread in the Forum section of this website.

Many visitors to this website have been concerned about the cables that the falcons have pulled down into the nest tray. They should pose no threat to the chicks in their first three weeks. The only function of the cables is to pull up the 'drawbridge' on banding day so that the chicks stay in the nest. They will be removed at the conclusion of the banding event.

Ranger seems to like incubating, and he's been doing a really good job. I've noticed that he has been spending quite a bit of time on the eggs, so I think SW must be satisfied. She has a fairly distant perch on a building from which she can see the nest ledge and Ranger . . .
