They don't drink per say..they get hydrated from the food they eat..moisture from the meat I guess.  When our chicks in Etobicoke were banded a few weeks ago they got squirts from a water bottle and we were told that was the first time they'd ever had water.

That's a really good question, and one I've never thought of -- glad you asked!  It's prob as hot there as it is here.

TPC, awaiting your reply!

They look like they're panting or something, they must be hot?  ??? Don't they need some water?? - how do they drink anyway? I sound like a real 'newbie' - well I guess I am!  :P

Amazing how big they're getting.  I thought I was looking at two together in a clump and it turned out to be only one!

I bet if I had sound right now I'd mute it.  That chick looks LOUD!  And it's right by the camera, too (which is adorable, of course).   :D

I think the chick just looking straight at the camera squawking is telling us it's hungry!   :D

This nest needs Trey!  I can't believe what a mess of feathers it is.  One chick was rooting around for something to eat, got a feather stuck on its beak, and after trying several times to get rid of it, appeared to just give up and swallow it!

Just saw a screeching mum come back, and looked surprised as two birds flew by right under the ledge.  I think she thought she had one of them!  She took off underneath, I guess after them, but they seem to have won cuz I don't see her back.  I can still hear her in the distance tho, so I guess she's still hunting.  LOL

Pchemist, they've been a busy bunch scolding mom or dad, whichever, for not bringing them food when they want it.

Down and dirty way of identifying the males chicks from the females - the male chicks will have less white fuzz on them.  The males will be ready to fly 7-10 days before the females and by that time they will have a bit of fuzz on their heads, but the females will still have big patches (relatively speaking) of white on them still.

One of the parents arrived with nooooooooooo food and the youngins were none to happy either, pecking at the adult beak hoping for food. The parent had enough of the screaming youngins that they left the nestbox and are now facing away perched on the beams extending out from the box.
