I am so happy to hear that it is sounding more and more likely that the female here could be Princess. :D But nesting on the east nestledge - too bad about that, TPC. :(

All the family in one place - male (Ivy) is on the south corner of the ledge, female (pretty sure Princess) is on the peak of the ledge), three chicks-in-waiting in the north corner.

Why would I bother posting this?  Not often you have both adults that close to one another except during defense or the hand-off of incubation/brooding/feeding duties.  I think the male is just making sure no one (Smiley/Joli perhaps) interferes with his family.

Egg number 3 on the nest ledge.  Incubation should start in the next 24 hours I would suspect but we will have to see with the warm weather on the way ...

Note about the female ... definitely not Joli.  Her band is black over green - which for those of you with good memories, is Princess' colour combination.  Male is black on right leg, silver on left, so our Ivy is still around.

TPC, with our cold nights, can the eggs freeze?

They could ... which is probably why the female has just parked herself on the eggs, I'm assuming for the night.  I should say that I was able to watch the birds just before she dropped down onto the nestledge and her eggs ... he was/is sitting on the west-side nestbox in the setting sun, she was sitting on the "n" in Radisson on the east side doing some preening.  Both sides seem to equally be buffetted by the wind so it was just preference in this case.

Look up, look way up folks.  Male and female at the Radisson are sitting together on the east-side sign

Tracy I am wondering how long you think the two eggs were on the nestledge?  When you saw them was that also your first look at the nestledge this year?  Do you have an approximate idea when they were laid?  Is the timing such that you are expecting a third egg anytime now?

First egg was laid on April 21st, second on April 23.  Expect third (if there is one) tomorrow or Friday and if there is a fourth, it should be laid by the end of the weekend.  Incubation should start shortly after egg three is hatched, but if the weather really does turn as warm as they say, the parents may hold off a bit and start just before egg 4.  They have a month's worth of incubation ahead of them, so sometimes pairs will stall a bit before getting down to business  if the weather is favourable.  Forecast is for 14C Friday, 17C Saturday, 18C Sunday, 13C Monday then rain and 9C on Tuesday.  However, the nestledge is on the east side of the building so away from the afternoon sun, so they might not wait to start incubating ...

With the choice of the nestledge to lay eggs, I sincerely hope it is our infamous "Mumbrella"  ::)

Well, someone was out stretching their wings. I've been feeling rather cheated that while I've been walking about downtown on most days, I had rarely seen the Radisson birds. But I was finally rewarded - saw someone fly up to the very tip top of that contraption on the Hydro building about 1:00 p.m.. Couldn't tell who it was with my old eyes, but was happy to see him/her.

Think it is Ivy on the nestledge standing guard over the eggs - the breast looks too large and white to be the female (whomever she might be).  Why guarding, he doesn't really need to except that there is alot of window-cleaning going on in downtown Winnipeg right now - the CanWest Global Building at Portage & Main (sorry, can't remember what its new name is now) as well as the Kensington Building.  Depending on how frisky the birds are in the snow (yes, it is snowing in Winnipeg right now) and/or how protective they are of their two rust-coloured-bundles-of-aggravation, the Kensington cleaners might have some "company" because they are using a lift rather than bosun's chairs.  Could be fun to watch ...  ;D
