Was that a parent that just came to the nestbox or one of the fledgings?

1245h CDT

Yellow made his move again and came north and around to the Sterling Building where he tried to hang onto the brick wall.  Eventually he let go, got his wings under him and headed off for the side of the MEC Building with Fledgewatchers in hot pursuit.

And yes, that is yellow you are all watching on the skycam at the moment ...

If he doesn't come out of hiding, chances are someone will spot him and let us know.

In Jon Gerrard's blog about Makoon, he spoke about the "amazing attention Manitobans have given to the Peregrine Falcons in Winniepg and Brandon". With all the growing public awareness about the falcons, the odds sure improve that someone will spot him and actually know who to report to!

News from the Field (or Streets)

Yellow has decided to make his move - he flew down the street he was on and managed to gain some altitude and is now about 50 feet higher than he was.  This is what they are suppose to do.  He apparently looks like he is going to try another "hop" so we may have more news shortly.

Fingers crossed everyone ... going to hijack cam for a few minutes ....

You all probably noticed that you had a ledge-cam view for a long while, that is because I hijacked the skycam to check roof tops.  You have all noticed that you are back on the sky-cam view because we are hitting midday and the chicks should, regardless of where they are, settle down through the heat of the day.  As the sun goes further overhead I'll hijack the cam again to see what I can see in what has been in shadow up until now.  And then when it gets a bit cooler, the chicks should become more active again and again I'll be hijacking the camera if I'm not on my way downtown.

No sign of white yet, but yellow has moved so far as I know either, so hopefully these little guys prove themselves to be as smart as they were at the nestsite and they will stay well.

Note for folks from-away, it is sunny with very light winds and its a weekend, so downtown is quieter than during the week - all great conditions for fledging peregrines.

Just got back from a fledgewatch stint of a few hours. Dennis & BCCS were already there & Cooper joined in a while later. The top of the parkade was the perfect spot to watch yellow bird on the ledge of the MTS centre.  When I first got there, Ivy was on the i of the Manitoba Hydro sign & Princess was sitting pretty on the b.  Red bird (her little highness) was on the nest box with transmitter bird on the ledge.  Swallows would do fly bys tryng to harass yellow bird but other than watching them, he just sat there calm cool & collected.  To be able to be that close to a peregrine falcon was more than I could hope for.  Yellow did some flapping of the wings & we would think he would take off again, but most of the time seemed to be quite happy either snoozing or walking the ledge.  When I left Ivy was back on the roof of the Radisson, Princess had been on the tower but then took off towards the river.

Any sightings of white boy yet?

A little earlier there was a food drop at the ledge, nobody was terribly interested.  :)

They were spooked by the noise coming from the roof. I heard a creak and the two bolted ten seconds later!  :(
