Our first fledger was indeed our green/silver banded male. As I reported earlier, he made it to the roof of the Roger's Building (actually the Newport Building) but got spooked when some window washers started to lay out their lines and off he went again. After four hours of trying to find him, I left to get back to my computer to see what was up (Des took over and walked some more streets in the afternoon but nothing to report).
Got a call a wee bit later that a peregrine was down near Air Canada and sure enough it was green/silver. He looked fine but still had him checked out by Lisa Tretiak of Prairie Wildlife Rehab who has been working with us on the Project for more than a decade now (sorry Lisa!). He was fine and healthy so before he was returned to the nestbox he was fitted with a satellite transmitter as part of the on-going transmitter research project (same as last year). Trying to access the Radisson chicks in the nestbox is just too dangerous, so if a bird goes down and is healthy, they are a candidate.
We were keeping an eye on the chicks at the nestbox and managed to get him back in the box safely and quietly and the box lid back on and then there was a screech noise (nothing on the box squeaks or screeches) and then yellow and white were "off". Nice launches too - better than green's actually. Yellow we found comfortably perched a couple of blocks west but couldn't spot white in the failing light. Would have like to have found both before heading back, but with light going, they weren't going to be going anywhere and tomorrow is another day.
