Princess was cuddled up to the chick pile . . . .breakfast delivered aprox  5:35

First 2 chicks where eating and 2 were just hanging out, playing it cool.
Then the 3rd chick (that looks like the smallest) decided to step up for some food.

Meanwhile the 4th chick was puttering around and picking a left overs.

It was very cute, he/she seemed to discover that if you hold the chunk of food with your feet, it's easier to gnaw away at it. It looked like the first time it happened, he/she just happened to be standing on it and gnawing at the same time - but then looked like chickie picked up on the concept.

Eventually # 4 went over to have some of what mom was serving up.

5:50 - back to a chick huddle against the wall. Princess removed the food & came back to join the kids.

It just started to rain out (coming down steady). Is 9c now with thunder showers and a high of 13 today.

7:00 - another breakfast :o

8:30 - post breakfast snack

It's always great to hear reassuring words - thanks for that, it is just hard not to worry! It will be interesting to see if the littlest is a boy - looking forward to finding out more about these little royals.

Once the chicks are banded it may be easier to determine who is eating at what meal.

The exact dates/times are someplace, but I can't remember where I saw them - so just going back over the posts:
- the first 2 chicks hatched between midnight and 3am on Saturday May 12th
- the second hatched aprox 9am on the morning of Saturday, May 12th
- the 4th one hatched Sunday, May 13th aprox 4pm

It seems like they get bigger over night - so maybe the difference in size is just the hatch order.

Right now everyone is huddled in the chick pile.

It's impossible not to fret at times while watching these guys - Ivy sure is doing his job though, lots of meals & snacks coming constantly - I've noticed the little one hanging back also - but she/he looks healthy enough, and luckily Peregrines are not like Eagles - they'll push & shove to get their share, but not get violent with each other - so all will get enough in the end~!  ;D They're already starting to grab for themselves instead of waiting to be fed! Incredible how fast and big they're growing!  :o

No need to worry, ESP, although we all do at some time or another.  Princess and Ivy are experienced parents and all the kids get fed, though not necessarily at the same time.  They just had a feeding all are moving around as much as their full crops and oversized clumsy bodies will let them.  ::)

I know, I am probably worrying unneccessarily - but there is one chick that doesn't seem to participate in the feedings - the littlest one. Seems he/she tries a bit to get into the crowd but gives up and backs away. Just watched another feeding and it happened again. Is this okay??? ???

The chicks were much closer to camera this time when had another feed about 9:30pm.   8)   One wasn't interested and the other one came later for a snack.

How neat, but OMG, did you see those crops, bursting at the seams. ;D Also, one of those at the back was wingercizing, ahhh, already.  How time flies.

Another successful meal eaten and now we are doing the chickpile huddle against the back wall.  It is going to be cold tonight so Princess will really have to do the huddle-cuddle.  Might be a bit difficult seeing these flufflings are no longer flufflings but are tweenagers!  Two weeks old tomorrow for three of them!  :D

Much later now than when you observed, BCBird, but once again it's a chick pile in view -- no parent in sight, although I know someone is watching closely. Someone is quite chatty but overall it's a peaceful, sleepy sight!

Quite a lot of peeping and shuffling at the back wall until Princess arrived.  She shuffled them and tucked under a few limbs and heads for a bit, and gradually silence ensued.  At that Princess stepped back and left the nestbox.  Quiet chick pile accomplished!

...food's coming in fast & furious now - I'm always amazed at how quickly they can manage much LARGER chunks of prey  :o...
