Almost walked into a wall today walking to work, as I could see both Trey & Princess soaring/circling above the hotel and wasn't paying attention to my immediate surroundings.  Sheila (co-worker) saw them doing the same thing this afternoon - btw, Sheila is absolutely convinced that "things are happening".........

This would explain the little camouflage outfits ... hmmm

Squirrel camo, like that  :D

I know they don't eat the squirrels.. but they sure scare them.. i see the merlins eatting black birds of some kind... starlings maybe?

Starlings, grackles, maybe even blackbirds (red-winged or golden-crowed) ....

Well - as long as there's hope there's something to look forward to -  I think they'll try again... :) - Plenty of time left - sort of... ??? - And with this silly cool wet weather lately, P&T must think it's still APRIL or something!!!   ::)

Hey Gang,

Caveat:  Phanatics, don't get your hopes up with any of the following ...

Sightings: Dennis Swayze (our official photographer/PhotosbyDennis) spotted Trey (we think) sitting on one of the small cell antennaes on the Radisson right by the nestbox today as he was driving through.  Though it is not proof that renesting will occur, it is one of Trey's favourite spots when they are nesting in the box.

Renesting:  IF IT OCCURS, it will take two weeks for Princess to get buns in the box.  Keep in mind that they have to do the whole sex thing again (I'm going to go blind again!) and Trey is an experienced older man (no comments about Viagra) so he will do it right and that takes time.

Webcam Locations:  We have four cameras installed on the Radisson.  One is the spycam - remember the photos of the ledge from above from earlier in the season?  Two is the nest ledge cam, the one you all were watching online.  Three and four are installed at the nestbox: three is right in the box, four is outside the box looking at the ledge.  Cameras three and four are fixed (we can't move them), one and two are remotely controlled.

Webcam Online:  IF the birds renest, we will go back online.  If they don't, we probably won't.  Will let you know if there are any changes to that plan as I get them.

Merlins & Squirrels:  LoriAnn - merlins won't eat the squirrels, but they will prevent them from getting anywhere near the nest because they eat the eggs.  The chicks are probably too big for a squirrel, but they'd want to prevent them from getting close.  And have no fear, your "critters" are still around they are a) just more quiet & invisible than usual and b) have changed their regular routines so as not to attact attention.  You should be back to normal about a month after the merlin chicks have fledged.

Mother Hen: used to work in your building in another career incarnation.  Great view!  ;D

That's what I was thinking - it must cost money to run - maybe we need to ask 'Pretty Please' - or take up a collection?  ;D

Hi ballywing, as I recall there is only the one webcam.. It is high up on the side of the building and was there to look at the nestbox at the top!  They had a big zoom and were able to manover it and point it down at the lower ledge where they did nest this year.  Remember on Black Friday Eyespy had the cam pointed all over the place!  So yes I was wondering if they would turn it on for us and point it at the nestbox location as thats seems to be where Princess is sighted quite often.  But was thinking maybe that all cost money to run it right now or something, when there is not much happpening.  ???  Sure would be nice to see them though.  We could keep the team informed between all of us on what we see them doing!!

Now I wonder -  ??? - did they move the cam from the nestbox to the ledge when P&T decided to nest there? - or is that a different cam - meaning - is there still a cam at the penthouse? And if not - then how will they put one there AFTER the birds have nested there (hopefully)  ??? - I agree, I'd rather see something rather than nothing. If the cam was set up at the penthouse, we could see Princess going in & out and stuff!!  I wonder if that's possible?  ;D

We have no resident rodents here anymore... no squirrels, and no ground dwelling critters...  we have  a family of merlin falcons that nest in the neighbors pine tree.. waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up ... and when she moved in, the critters moved out .. or she ate them... but we have no squirrels.. and they used to nest in our maple.

Nice that you have such a wonderful array of beasties... !

do you think you could point your web cam out the window.. we're all suffering withdrawl.. lol

I sure wish we could still see the cams. At least we could sometimes catch sight of
T&P. If they do lay eggs on the same ledge would they be moved? Not wanting to see another June downpour repeat.

G'day fellow Phanatics,

While I am busy doing major housecleaning I've been thinking about Trey and Princess and the phanatics.

wow, really quiet guys! :)  Its a nice day here in NB.  23C and sunny. Nice breeze.  Put some striped black sunflower seeds out awhile ago for a couple of mourning doves that were scrounging for food.  Ummm, but unfortunetly my resident chipmunks have been busy carrying it all away to there underground stash!  Mr red squirrel must be busy elsewhere as there have been no fights or wild chases yet today.   Refilled my hummingbird feeder this morning as well, seems to be a healthy number of them around. A downy woodpecker seems to like the trees in my front yard best.  Haven't sighted the loons yet today.  Songbirds seem quieter than normal, been wondering if a hawk or owl is nesting nearby.  We had an owl last summer living almost directly across from me in the hardwoods.  May go down by the water later and sit a spell.  I'll let you all know if i see anything exciting!    ;) :)

Glad to hear from Mother Hen, and that Trey and Princess are still there.  I do hope that Princess is getting her energy levels replenished if she is getting ready to nest again.  My she was one worn out bird I thought! I feel bad for all the peregrines lost so far this year, imagine the ones we don't even know about!! Probably lots of falcons renesting this year.  I do hope our extreme weather will be kinder to them this time around.
