That's an egg?  I don't see the colour -- I was just being grateful that there was no egg.  Rats!

George just came in for a quick visit and Weezie got up, that egg is a beautiful color - like a blue green color.  He is so devoted to her, you can't help but admire him.  Such a fascinating bird, I will never look at them the same way again.


Wow..a few minutes later, Weezie looking up at something and suddenly she just vaulted out of the nest..no George, it was stunning!

Just occurred to me that if you replace "raven" with "workman" and "peregrine" with "raven" in the last day's worth of posts that it sounds pretty much like the conversation we were all having last weekend

TPC will correct me if I'm wrong but I think since the falcons are bonded with this nest site, especially the tiercel who has been here for many years it probably won't happen unless they absolutely fail to drive the ravens out and Radisson gets close to laying eggs.  Still early for that though, since both just got home and are now distracted with this issue. 

Since they almost killed George yesterday, I'd say they aren't going to give up without a fight.  Radisson is a pretty tough girl too, it is assumed that she killed Baltzac girl to take this nest site...and we still have Falcon #3 who is on her way home too.  Stay tuned...

I suspect this could be a hard-fought battle on both sides.  The peregrines want this site and are true predators while ravens are in fact songbirds.  But the ravens have eggs already which might make them fight harder.  But the ravens are already stressed by having their nests dismantled twice, could tip the balance in favour of the peregrines.  As the peregrines begin courtship et al, they will be more determined to take over the site so that might give them a bit more of an edge at that point.  All in all, going to be interesting to watch - and its nice that we have three cameras to do so!

At first I thought the image was frozen, then I remembered that Alberta is one time zone behind us!  Makes me sound like I don't remember these things when actually its a function of the immediacy of things so far away AND in your home at the same time!!!

I forgot that one of the biologists e-mailed me back and said that once the falcons get into gear the ravens and the nest will be gone. so they must know more about  their behavior.

He said that is why they were reluctant to take out the nest becasue they knew they would just keep building.  But I think they should have just kept clearing the nest and then the ravens would not have laid eggs.
but I guess they know best.

I wish the biologists had just put together another box for the ravens as soon as this whole thing started; it would have perhaps saved us all alot of anxiety.  I have to go out for Easter right now, but I hope to make it down to the nestbox later this afternoon-early evening, even though I dread what I could see.  This is the long good-bye, and what a long, difficult process it is.

It is just killing me not being on the ground watching.  I would have snuck out today but my other daughter phoned when we are at the sight yesterday , saying she was coming up for  Easter, now. I am thrilled and will drag her to the nest tomorrow also.
It is funny that yesterday we did not see the male around her at all and we were there for almost 5 hours.
I f I have time I will post where the falcons were sitting yesterday. My individual shots did not turn out so hot but i can give you an idea where the falcons are.

And the male can see everything from his tower on Windsor place.

No worries Bev, just enjoy your day..not much going on that I can see other than lots of calling on Weezie's part ... both George and Weezie have been in and out 2 times today.  I haven't seen any falcons yet but I'm cooking lamb so back and forth and may have missed them.  Still only 1 egg in the box, she has been restless and darting her head about nervously.  Not much any human can do..it's up to the birds at his point and this could go on for days.

Wish I could get there today guys, but I have a lot on my plate. I think ,since Peter is doing tablet fudge right now, he would kill me.
