Wow!  I don't have a way to watch Elk River site on my Mac, but all of you, in these MANY pages over two threads, have painted the best word pictures as the events unfolded.  Thank you all for such good reporting.
I gather we can all sit back now and relax a bit.  Get that tea, coffee or beverage of choice.
Yesterday, was following some of the action from that eagle forum (sorry, forget it's official name), and quite agree that our forum seems a kinder, gentler place to be.  Tracy and her shovel have accomplished a lot!

I think the chick look pissed in the picture...kind of looks like a little bald eagle with that white fluff on top of its head.  Dad's hanging out on top of the nestbox now after dropping off a snack awhile back.  Glad the female had that to herself so I don't think she's sick.  The brother is too full to fight her for it anyway.   ;)  Dad can hang out now since mom's too busy with the other one to shoo him off.

Okay guys I was just reading that other forum and here is the news,  I am copy and pasting this posts,, hope it was okay to do that.

Betchem (21 minutes ago)
Ok everyone..I just spoke with Brenda with GRE and she said the falcon baby is fine..the mom and dad are taking very good care of it..the baby has plenty of shade...at this point they are not planning on trying to get it and return it to the nest because it could cause it to fall from the silo and cause injury...she also said to expect to see the other babies to get out on the bar more often and scare us to death in the next few weeks...

Otter (21 minutes ago)
I called the Great River Energy people and she told me that the falcon that fell is fine. It is on the rooftop of an adjacent building and the parents are feeding it. It has shade. She said once it is better at flying it will probably go back up to the box.

Hi TPC, yes we realized that the notice you had put about a chick fallen had been put on this thread by mistake.  This here is another chick that "fell" yesterday afternoon.  Its been talked about on another forum, and word was that it had fallen yesterday, it was alive and on top of a silo nearby and a rescue was going to be attempted today.  The truck and crane came, about 3 hours ago now, we seen it and heard lots of machinery and noise, adults flew around and were very upset.  This is not thesame chick you got the e-mail about a few days ago.  :) :) Any info you can get for us about this chick would be gratefully appreciated.   ;D

thanks for following up Tracy. We're all very anxious to know! The position on the female right now is hilarious! Both legs splayed out laying on her belly. Very comical!!

those 2 look tuckered out (or hot). A lot of activity for them today, not to mention us!! It's probably safer for all to put Miss Runaway in another safe spot rather than return her.... hope we get to see her perched sometime soon.

Ah - so at this point we won't see the fallen chick back in this box then. ?  :-\ - tsk and we've been waiting half the day LOL - plus at the rate the brother is going, he may be gone soon too. How quickly things change!  8)

Thanks for the info, Tracy.  We read somewhere that the chick had "fallen" (perhaps it was a failed fledge attempt) and was on a silo roof nearby.  We also saw/heard a lot of crane activity, but it's all quiet now.

The male still in the box has nearly flown off a few times, but just goes to the ledge and flies back to the box.  So, I guess we're on fledge-watch!

Note about fledging - once they go, they are gone and probably won't come back to the nestbox.  They may come near but generally don't come back and certainly not on a regular basis.  If a chick were injured or grounded, the Project might put the fledgling in the nestbox as a safe location, but it may be easier to release from another roof with easier access for the human rescuers ....
