MN / Elk River - 2008-22

On their site it mentioned that the last sighting of the female last year was Aug 15.  I guess they should be around for another couple weeks or so.  Do the juvies usually leave before the parents?  Mom stayed this time for over an hour before she spotted something (snack perhaps) and flew off.  I've seen a few prior posts of Mom scratching/digging around the nestbox a bit.  Guess she's wanting the same room next year.

It's Mom alright - she went into the nestbox and scratched around a bit.  Now back out on the ledge.  Over 45 mins and still enjoying the peace and quiet looking out towards the road.  I wonder if the chicks have migrated or are still hanging around.

If anyone is watching, I think it's Mom perched out on the ledge right now.  Her back is to the cam but I'm guessing by the noise she's making that's Mom.  So they're still around.

Falcon alert...someone is just hanging out standing on the outside bar.

I have been lucky enough this week to have seen a peregrine at the nestsite at three different times.  One of the kids was there late this morning making a lot of noise.  It is so great to get a glimpse of them again and know that they are O.K..

I hadn't seen any of the falcons at the nest lately, but late this afternoon one of the parents visited - I think it is the female. She didn't stay long, but did a lot of digging in the gravel in the corner nearest the cam.

It's still on, but I haven't had the great timing I had before.  I can hear them sometimes (when the sound is on) so I still have hope for one last glimpse.  The problem is, you never want it to be the last one!

I happen to just click onto the cam (surprised they still have it running) and saw a falcon in the nestbox, poked around a bit and took off.  I just saw the backside of the bird.  The chicks are probably so grown now (all dark feathers, no baby down) that it'll be difficult to tell if it was a chick or one of the parents.

Hm, I'd given up on this cam for the past couple days - but guess I'll turn it back on again - the sound definitely helps let us know if any visitors drop in!!  ...........HEY!! - good timing! - 10 min after I turned the cam back on, somebody came & perched for a min, screeching away. Not sure who - maybe Lightening..?  - Great to see them whoever it was!!!

We just had a visitor.  And the sound is working again!  Quick hop to the perch, a little preening, then off again.

Ya gotta be quick and lucky to catch a glimpse of them these days.

Falcon on the ledge - back to me so can't tell who.  But nice to see another visitor!  Good break from painting my kitchen cabinets.

THERE'S A FALCON!  Holy moley.  Sound is out, but when I opened it up a juvenile (probably Lightning) is in the box wandering around pecking at stuff!!!

 

Then, of course, she flew off.  But I got to see one!  Woohoo!

I don't think any of them showed up last night and have been checking in a few times today, still nobody... - are they really all gone?  not quite ready to give up yet - will keep checking just in case!
