I am happy to hear that the chicks and parents are doing fine. And all the hard work that you, TPC does for this birds is out of this world. Bccs and Pam ,if you made a trip to the area that the birds where in, did you enjoy each others company and all the other birds around that area. That is what nature is all about. Happy bird watching.

I find it really exciting that the ww birds have been relocated.  I am thrilled for all the assistance we give any and all wildlife after the mess we've made of our great planet.  Tracy, I am so thankful for people like you and all those connected to these and other wildlife and environmental efforts.  Your knowledge, expertise and commitment give me hope for peregrines and all other species that I value & cherish.  Way to go!!

:) So happy to hear the WW chicks have been banded and moved to a safer area and Mom and Dad followed. Thank you Dennis, you have already answered my next question. Look forward to your photos.  :-*

Thanks for the explaination Tracy.
I and others are fully aware that you do not need to offer any justification for what you do regarding the birds.

My only point was that if more people knew what was going on, as it was going on, the more streamlined the whole event could be.

There is a wealth of people out there that is  so very much committed to the birds.  I hope you involve them and use them.

I'm very glad to hear that the project takes the privacy agreement seriously. That is as it should be.

But I do wonder when the relocation happened. If it was a day or two ago, it would have been nice to read about it. Was it this morning? Before 11:30? If so, I can fully appreciate the word would not have gone out. Life happens and we some times have no control over events.

However if it was a day or two ago, and we had been notified, I could have saved money on gas and perhaps spent my time with Pam in a more productive manner.

No, we did not band them this morning, we like many other people had plans for the long weekend, so we spent a very long day doing all our peregrine work so that we could enjoy some time "off" knowing all the chicks were safe and settled.

And as a point of order, we are not required to publicize or provide prior public notice as to when or where we will be banding the chicks as bandings are not events that are open to the public.  With the webcams at the Radisson and McKenzie Seeds however, we have been able to take advantage of the loophole the cams provide to tap into the feed and stream the bandings live - allows us to share more than we normally would be able to without further impacting the birds or what we need to get done.  Our other sites we comment on because we know most people are interested in all the birds we have in the province.  If, however, this becomes an issue, we may have to do what Ohio does which is to discuss only the sites with webcams and provide a report on other sites at year's end.

Wow, what a shock. No warning that the banding and relocation was going to take place.
That knowledge would have saved Pam and myself from hanging around west Winnipeg site today, hoping to get a picture or two of the birds.     :-\

I'm sorry you two had a wasted trip but we have don't advertise when we are banding the West Winnipeg chicks when they nest in the "bad" location.  Part of our privacy agreement with the locations involved.

Am I right in assuming that the new location of the 3 banded females must be close to where the parents had been nesting with their chicks, TPC? Of course, I don't actually know where they were nesting. But how could the parents find their chicks, unless it was close to where they had been? Just wondering. :-\

Close enough and a site they know and have used over the years.  :)

So do Beau and Jules get to visit their chicks in the new accomodations?

Oops, sorry, yes, Beau and Jules are taking care of the kids.  Because we could get access to them at banding age, they were young enough to "move" rather than "remove".  They now have time to imprint on the new location before fledging in 3+ weeks and because there are three of them they shouldn't fledge before they are ready to go.
