Drive by at about 7:30 this morning found two chicks sitting pretty near the northeast corner of the diner, facing west, tails hanging over. Looked like they were having sisterly confab. Parent was supervising from northwest corner.

So folks know, there is a ledge on the inside of the roof wall around the nestbox so the chicks can be on the roof, or up in the nestbox or up a bit higher on this ledge or up on the roof wall (as seen in Dupre's photos).  When we build this type of nestbox for use in West Winnipeg, we make sure there is this inside ledge because the wind outside of downtown is more constant and can be quite strong and these rooftops are wide open.  With the inside ledge, the chicks can see over the wall but still  be mostly out of the wind.

Some pics from about 6 pm.

There are two chicks, one can clearly be seen, the other is ducked down/laying down. Can't see the chicks when up close. These pics are taken from quite a distance.

Do these chicks have transmitters? I think I can just make out the wires, especially on the one that is ducked down.. Or is this part of the video tech by the nest box?

Was in the area to do some shopping after work and remembered to bring the binocs.  Stood and watched for awhile - one of the parents on the north-east corner and one of the chicks further along on the north edge.  Just missed the other parent flying off, probably to get some dinner.

I see them every morning now on the way to work.  'Tis the season to watch out for crazy bird watchers, waving and looking skyward and possibly baking cakes ::)

TPC, looks like you and I happened by at about the same time. If I knew you were coming I'da baked a cake. Or at least waved.  :)

Considering the kind of contortions it takes to get a look at all four sides of that building while driving, we are probably just lucky we didn't crash into each other!!  Next time I'll wave just in case  :)

Okay, either these chicks are ready to go any minute or they had visitors from downtown. I drove by the diner this morning about 8:30 (ya, late for work and in no hurry) to see four birds on the building. One each on the NW and NE corners (often see the parents in these positions) and two more on the East side, with middle birdie flapping like crazy, looking quite strong, and somebody (maybe more than one of them) calling and making a lovely-to-hear racket.  :)

I counted 4 on the walls this morning - at least 2 were chicks though likely one adult and all there chicks.  Winds were light at the time which is a good thing, their fledge site has very strong prevailing winds (usually west to east).  All the nestsites in West Winnipeg are windier more often even than the Radisson.  Radisson is loudier and more problematic - more swirl than the winds in West Winnipeg.  Means the West Winnipeg chicks will have to learn to fledge with more consistent winds than the Radisson chicks - there is no place to really get away from the wind at any of the West Winnipeg nestsites.  Different skill sets for different nest sites that's for sure.

On Saturday, we went for a drive to check out the falcons. Easily found Beau, but he was sitting in the middle of the north wall. This is not where we normally find him. Also I could have sworn that as we approached there was a falcon on the NW corner, but none there as we looked closer. Then we drove away and as we were headed back home, there was a bird on the NW corner and Beau still in the middle of the North side. So either Jules was playing hide and seek with us (ie feeding the kids), or one of the younguns decided to check out the edge.

Been away from the boards and cams for a while, office is moving to a new location and so has been crazy busy!  Reading this thread, however, explains the sentinels stationed on two corners of the building whereas in June I'd be lucky to see a quick flyby once a week.  They were doing a lots of screeching last week when my coworkers and I decided to dine outdoors.  Lots of peregrine poop and bits of birdy floating around as well.  The kids are very well fed by the look of things  ;D  It's wonderful to know that I may get the chance to see a falcon fledge in person before our office relocates!

Thank you TPC, Dennis and all the others who keep us up to date on ALL of our birds, not just the webcam stars. It is greatly appreciated!
