RAIN forecast  ::) ;D

 >:( >:( >:(
I heard we are in for a lot of rain starting Tomorrow. (Fri)  I just hope if we have any little chicks that finally decide to come that Princess will keep them warm and dry as she is well known to do.

Lots of rain and strong winds on the way. Over 80 mm expected by Saturday.  >:( >:(

Yay, I missed it but she must have discovered the stranded egg! Back where it belongs now.  ;D

Sometimes it is almost as if they have given up on the eggs, to me, but I am probably wrong.  It just seems that the eggs are being left uncovered quite a bit now.  Hope it is just my imagination.

Shift Change - Princess settled back on the eggs but one of them has snuck out, and isn't covered - she doesn't seem to realize it.  :-\

1447h CDT
Quick shift change when it's not raining - Ivy is on the eggs and everyone is tucked down nicely.  Couldn't see anything on the eggs but that little "maybe" pip (or pebble) from yesterday ...

(Sarcasm Alert)   I do so love weather forecasts.  (Sarcasm Alert Concluded)

Looks like we have rain on the menu until Sunday ...
  • today less than 5mm
  • Wed sun + 5-10mm
  • Thurs no sun + 15-20mm
  • Fri wee bit of sun + up to 10mm
  • Sat no sun + 1-3mm
  • Sun & beyond sunny + partly sunny (yippeee)

None of the amounts forecast are dangerous amounts, just annoying and more work for Princess and Ivy.  Fortunately it will be while the chicks are small which will make it easier for Ivy to stuff them all under him and out of the rain.  There is also wind forecast, not high speeds but east which is right onto the ledge and north which the drainage cover and wall should help provide a bit of a wind break.

Tracy, thank you for this weather forcast. (Sarcasm)  ::)

Was just outside, it's a light but steady rain, not cold but quite damp out there. Trying not to think 'if only' about the nest location, as there's obviously nothing we can do about it - but can't help it.  :-[

It is starting to rain ... not much from what I can see on the webcam, the pebbles are slightly darker which means they are wet.  Looking at the camera on the nestbox (where Princess isn't), there is a distinct between the damp and dry pebbles ... she could have been undercover if she hadn't decided to be a rebel this year  ::)

Day 33

First shift change was at 0548h CDT today, Ivy took over from Princess who'd been "on" last night.  Didn't last long though, Princess reclaimed her spot at 0604h CDT and doesn't look to be ready to move.  Could be the weather forecast (who knew they had access to Enviroment Canada - or maybe it was our Twitter feed  ;)) or it could be chicks getting ready for their debut, or perhaps both.  Upside of wind is that light rain gets blown about, upside of rain is that often the wind goes down.  The chicks have a decent scrape there so there is more than a few inches of gravel where the eggs are.

Today's forecast for Winnipeg

Day - Overcast with a 70% chance of rain. High of 22C. Breezy. Winds from the South at 15 to 25 km/h.
Night - Overcast with rain in the evening, then partly cloudy with a 70% chance of rain. Low of 12C. Breezy. Winds from the SSW at 10 to 20 km/h shifting to the WNW after midnight.

South winds not our favourite, winds from any quarter to the west tend (TEND) to be less of an annoyance on the ledge but it will depend on how the downtown buildings funnel the air movement

Maybe the chicks are being as elusive as Princess was earlier trying to wait and identify her.
