I agree.  Thanks, TPC, for providing the timely info to keep us from going over the top with worry over the last egg hatching.

The third egg was laid overnight on the 7th/8th but egg four wasn't laid until the 10th.  And it is not usual for hatchings to space out over a couple/three days, just happens in this case that 1-3 hatched quickly - interestingly enough 34 days after incubation began which I believe was the same as last year.  So, if "baking time" is the same for all (big supposition), today would be early, tomorrow would be 34 days.  That kind of delay is not a problem.  A week between hatches, is more problematic, but given how much food Ivy has traditionally brought into the nest for the chicks, food wouldn't be much of a problem either, he doesn't seem to have problems keeping up with his kids' increasing appetites.

Thanks. You always have such great info. We'll try to be as patient as Princess. ;)

I remember in a past year (last year? two years ago?) there was one egg that lagged a few days behind the others. But when that chick hatched, the chick did just fine.

So I think there's no need to get worried yet!

Hopefully #4 makes an entrance today so he/she's not too far behind the others!   :)

I noticed it also, Liz. Ivy just seems so small for this job!

His outline would make a great shape for a hood ornament, sleek, beautiful and built for speed ;)!

tpc, I didn't notice the egg at this feeding? Is it hiding between the fluffies?

What is the most length of time between the first and last hatching?

Worried ???

Mealtime.  Princess came in with food and push Ivy off so she could feed the three babes.  Ivy's been back on the box edge once, almost like he's checking to see if more food will be required.  Princess is also having a wee nibble when the kids lose track of the snack ...  ;)

Princess is mellowing with age ... day two and Ivy is allowed to brood the chicks!!! Normally the little guy can't get near them for 3-4 days.

:D  Three little flufflings trying to cuddle under Princess's breast feathers and playing peek-a-boo at the same time.  Princess has quite the shuffle going on to accomodate them all and the egg too!  oops, must not step on any little heads!! :)

Still only 3 chicks? I thought for sure there would be another hatch in the night.

Yes still only three flufflings!  I just checked again and the one last hold-out egg is still taking its sweet ole time! :-\  Does not know what to do.  Maybe its siblings can give it a little hint.  Mama Princess is sure shuffling it around.  Looks like she is getting impatient with this one too!! haha, such is motherhood!  Will this one be the "runt" of the nestbox?? or does it catch up in size with the others?
