Chicks are cuddled up under parent (Ivy I think) - which is really hard to do as they are getting bigger very ten minutes.  ;)

Does anyone know why this CBC comment person seems to think Princess is not having a good year?
From what I have seen she is as wonderful a parent as any other year.
I shouldn't read those comments, so many of them make me upset.

I believe she is a new falcon cam watcher.  She is comparing the mothering that Princess is doing with her chicks to the incubating behavior that Hurricane is doing with the eggs.  Yes, the behaviors are remarkably different but then so are live hungry chick piles compared to eggs. Princess has the years of experience behind her and I would trust her much more so than the little bit of experience that Hurricane has.  She knows what to do.

Not to worry, the CBC commenter is in for a shock when the McKenzie Seeds chicks hatch - Hurricane is a good mother but she is very different, there is alot more passing over the chicks to Brooklyn than there is to Ivy - or at least there has been in previous years.  We'll of course have to see about this year, but with four chicks and being a small female, I suspect Hurricane and Brooklyn will shift change pretty regularly as they have in previous years.  Not a bad thing, keeps both parents rested and fed.  Sometimes you can tell that Princess is hungrier than the chicks at meal times ... good thing Ivy keeps a very plentiful stash of "snacks" for the kids and Princess.

I'm always amazed how fast they change in 48 hours! (I notice it more at 48 than 24)

It won't be long 'til those black stubs of feathers are poking through the fluff. I love that.

Looks like it's snack time out on the balcony, can just see the back ends of the chicks.

They've grown so much in just the last 24 hours.

So here is a question, how much longer is mama Princess still going to fit all those babies under her?  They certainly are beyond being chicklettes!!!  Love the preening they are doing as they change feathers.  Still young enough to want to cuddle with Princess when opportunity knocks.  Chickpile cuddles are in vogue too. :)

Unfortunately, I think that sometimes it is the wording that people use.  I wish people would realize that they would be received better if they ask a question, rather than assume something.  Instead of mentioning that Princess is having a bad year, perhaps ask something like, "Is it normal for Princess to....?"  Especially since they are a first time watcher. *sigh*

Thank you, Cadria, that is so well said. Great input. :)

Ah well.  It is 4:43 in the old 'Peg and the chicks are huddling together, perhaps waiting for a food delivery.  I haven't seen Mom or Dad for a bit, so am thinking they are just perched somewhere or out hunting.  They are so cute.  I was watching one preen...I just LOVE when birds get to the age of preening.   ;D  It reminds me of a kid trying to play a grown-up.

My experience from watching falcon cams over the years is that each parent is different in how they deal with their chicks and with each other.  It is fun to watch and learn each one's "personality."

...i never read the CBC comments unless somebody here mentions something about them;  also, do not feed the trolls  ;D...

Wish I had your fortitude. It is always the one comment that I see because it is just under the screen.

I quickly glance at it but often it just riles me up! Luckily the chicks make me smile almost immediately.  :D

And YES, they are growing like weeds.

I kind of hit the agree/disagree buttons.

It is hard not to comment on the CBC site, but any time that I have done so, in the long range scheme in the life of the littlest royals, this does not matter.  These commentors on the site also have opportunity to come to this forum and be educated.  TPC has posted the site link for any who want to do this.
