Saw Princess rolling her eggs about an hour ago, here at school. Very cool! 8) And the sound is great! :D Wish the webcam would work in the mornings so the Kinderchicklets could see it. :'(

Just have to say thank you for the sound and great feed this year.  I was lucky enough to wath a shift change this morning at 8 a.m.  The sound they make alerted me that something was happening, and I saw Ivy leave and Princess take over.  They sound so cute . . . even Princess . . . :D   Thanks again!

Great pair, it seems.  If you are lucky enough to witness a shift change, it happens quite quickly.  An interesting comparison to some of the other nests where Mom & Dad are not so 'in tune' with each other.  Ivy inherited some good genes!

2118 hrs

Light has gone too low to know who it is on the eggs at the moment - but whomever they are sound asleep with their face in the gravel.

Just saw a shift change at 2 pm. The sound of ambulances didn't bother princess but the smallest chirp and she was off the eggs and looking at the sky, then Ivy popped in.

I just read a quote that I want to share with all of you.

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."
John Muir

That reflects the work that you do, tpc.

Thank you Moka, very kind of you to say that.

Ivy is on the eggs right now. A few minutes ago, I had a great big Trey deja vu.
Ivy started to re-arrange the gravel and was so intent on doing so that he got off the eggs and continued to move things around.
And then he came to and realized that the eggs should be under him. Funny as all get out watching him herd the eggs back under him.
Like father, like son.

I totally agree. It looked like Trey sitting on those eggs!

The minute I heard Princess, Ivy jumped off the eggs to go look and then quickly got out of the way as Her Highness came in took over.

shift change. Lots of chupping by him, even more yelling by her.
Took her all of 10 seconds to get the eggs under her.

Thanks TPC, I'll check out the video when I can pull myself away from the live cam!

Meanwhile, did anyone else catch the Squawk-squawk-chatter-chirping at around 11:07am?  Was she complaining about the wind in the nestbox?

LOVE THE SOUND Eye spy!!  It totally enhances the experience.  I should also mention that this year's cam clarity is superb!  Bravo!!!!!!!

Is that still Princess on the eggs at around 10:35am?  I am trying to learn how to tell Princess & Ivy apart based on their feather markings.  Is Princess the one with the large black spots below her eyes?

I'll read back through old posts to see if anyone has provided info on the best ways to tell Mom & Dad apart.  If there is nothing there, could someone "in the know" please share your knowledge?

BTW - nice clean up job of last year's poop art!

Thanks all. . . .

Best indicator is size - she's much larger than he is.  You can also look for some lighter coloured feathers on her head and speckles further up her breast but right now with the cloudy conditions and with them so tucked down on the eggs, not so easy to see.  You can check out the shift change videos on our gallery (www.youtube.com/theperegrinechick) to see the difference in size and that might help.

There was a shift change at 0804 this morning - Princess took over from Ivy who had the early morning shift.  I would expect her to stay on the eggs until early/mid-afternoon when Ivy takes over for a few more hours and she takes a break.
