Would it somehow get into the parents via birds they eat ..who perhaps feed on something in the water or that they are exposed to via the food chain?  Which would affect egg production/eyases development?

Might also be pollution - VA is a coal mining state and it's waterways are severely polluted - to the point some environmental agencies call the water there toxic  This site here is near water- not sure about Richmond - but both they say are not not far from each other.  Two years ago at Richmond - all the babies died and the inside of the eggshells were black they said.

Eggs are water-tight so I'm not sure how pollution would get in prior to hatch.  Going to have to do a bit of research ...  ;)

You're thinking of Trich KC I'm guessing...
Yes, that's the disease I was wondering about, carly.

Sad news and something going on in Virginia - 4 eggs hatched, two babies dead after birth both here and today at Richmond the 2 new hatches both died right after hatching.

What's the weather like in Virginia?  Weather is the biggest threat to young chicks.  Too hot when they are this young is a real threat ....
I'll see what I can perhaps find out ...

Do you think they have some type of disease? ??? I can't remember the name of the disease that some peregrines are prone to developing. :-\

You're thinking of Trich KC I'm guessing.  Since they all died so fast and two of them never even got a meal - I'm not sure if that would apply.  TPC would know.

JJ is banded and is the son of James and his former longtime mate Victoria.  From your site posted by Oxbarb...  :-*

"The new male is 7/C, and was born in this nestbox in 2002. He is the son of James and Virginia. James and Virginia shared the same birthplace in Baltimore, and were a pair at JRB for many years."

Thanks Carly...I just realized my mistake and came back to correct it...got my nests mixed up!!!   ;D
