1245 hrs (local) - the wind that is bringing warmer temperatures our way is also giving Trey and Princess a little grief today. Not alot of grief from what I've been able to watch this morning, but they are limited in the direction they can lie so as to keep from getting lifted off the eggs. Environment Canada says 35 km/h gusting to 46-50 km/h but it seems stronger for some reason, maybe its that the gusts are more sustained. Actually the ledge-cam appears to be affected more by the wind than Trey is, maybe because the wind is from the south so it appears there is less "swirling" going on around the hotel. Its coming up Smith Street from the south so Trey (he's currently incubating) is facing north and is tucked down flat on the gravel, wings and tail tight and flat so the wind can't get underneath. He isn't even lifting his head to look around, just a little sideways movement but even then its a limited range from side to side. The only place you can see the wind catching is feathers is where they lie across his back but they are just getting ruffled he's so compact. Haven't seen him move around on the eggs today, but I'm sure its not a simple get up, roll the eggs, sit down, like yesterday!
... just watched our little rockstar get himself turned around and he is a very very clever bird. He managed turn 180 between gusts and roll all his charges with an efficiency of motion one rarely sees with him (check out his handstands on the May 3 photo gallery). He also seems to be keeping his eyes closed - is it because of the wind? the dust? or the only way he can refrain from housekeeping?
