Lets all concentrate on the fact that a 40% chance of showers means a 60% chance of NO SHOWERS.

No prob  :D

1120 hrs (local) - the air temp is really very warm here, even in the shade, we actually have a day with wind that doesn't feel like its just blown over a glacier somewhere!  Princess is on the ledge, its nice and sunny there, and our mama is doing some panting - think its for the first time this year.  Actually, she just stood up, had a stretch and now she's just standing over the eggs, think its warm enough now and she doesn't want to burn her buns ...

The wind is still bouncing the cam more than a bit, but I can't see any pips or anything and I haven't seen her "listening" to the eggs any, so maybe not quite yet ...

No feathers are ruffled and no apologies are necessary.

But isn't it wonderful that in this forum, people fall all over themselves to keep the good atmosphere going and not sink into nastiness & 'shouting' as in other forums? - must be our strict but super-duper sandbox manager!  ;D

We have been working since almost the day Trey & Princess laid their eggs to get access to the ledge to provide them with a short-term nest-tray to provide a bit more security in the event of a major rain event.  I have been working on this with Canada's foremost peregrine expert, a biologist that has had many years of experience doing exactly what we are attempting and while the operation isn't difficult or dangerous to anyone - people, peregrines or eggs/chicks, we just hadn't had cause to do it in our 29 year history.  We have done it once now, with the West Winnipeg birds, and it was textbook - we installed the nest-tray, Jules (a first time nester) returned to the eggs and immediately resumed incubation.  With Princess and Trey, both very experienced parents that are much more tolerant of human activity near their nest than Jules and Ivy, and given how dedicated Princess was to protect  the chicks last year during the June 6th storm, we are anticipating that this installation will be equally straightforward.  Because we actually have to use specialized equipment to access the ledge, we, the Project and Manitoba Conservation, decided to have one less thing to worry about so we are installing the tray before the cam goes live.  CBC Manitoba, Shaw TV and the Radisson Hotel/CanadInns are all in agreement with our decision.

We have tried to provide everyone with regular/semi-regular updates and photos to help survive the delay, at a considerable cost of time for three volunteers with jobs, families and other responsibilities.

Thank you so much TPC for everything that you do.  This is an enormous amount of work to take on.  And cheers and thanks to Dennis and Eye-spy as well.  If there is some way that others can assist please let us know what we can do.  I have been wondering, how the fundraising is going for all of this year's additional expenses?  (I couldn't figure out how to respond under the topic)

1015 hrs (local) - the wind is bouncing the cam around a bit (S/SSW up to 35km/h) but it seems to not be bugging Princess on the eggs much.  I think she's been trying to find a comfortable location to nap where the wind can't catch her tail.  Trey's around too because she keeps nattering at him - he's been on the sign at least twice - don't know if she's telling him to go shop, or that she's had enough and he's on egg duty.

It is the 22nd today, it was the 22nd of April when egg three was laid and incubation began so we are at Day 31 and we should have chicks in the next couple of days I would think.  Given the forecast, I'm not sure I want them for a few days - if only to avoid the rain.  However, the rain is less than a 40% chance on all but next Monday so might not even happen.  At least the temps are going up - long range temp for Sunday is 20c, 22c on Wednesday and 30c on Thursday ... one can only hope!

Hey Gang,

No feathers are ruffled and no apologies are necessary.  Over the last little while I have had to field the same question a number of times, and sometimes when that happens, the clarity gets lost in the repetition.  Since we have more folks joining the Forum all the time and more guests lurking to get the gossip, I thought it was time to provide a detailed, succinct and firm statement on the current situation, just so no one - new or old - could miss the message.

And no, it wasn't in response to any one (or two or fourteen) posts, it was just time to post a complete update.

So no worries, things are looking up for the nest-tray and I will have the date for the cam's launch later today - and yes, it will be a firm date.  :D

Old Bird again. :)
First, no more apologies are necessary, folks.  We all know that no one meant to offend.  Everything is peachy. ;D
Second, The Powers That Be in the PF world requested that the cam not go live until after the new ledge is in place.  TPC has no power over that.  As she has said, the cam will definitely go live before the hatching, and that only leaves a few days now for them to get the ledge in.  If the weather and a swing-stage don't cooperate at the same time in a day or two, the new ledge won't go in.  The cam will still come on.  Hang in there, Baby!

Ok, back to the silliness.  "The nuclear physicist took a vacation for a fission trip."  Oops, sorry TPC - wrong thread again! :o

Tracy, is it true that we're waiting on a web designer to come back from holidays to get the webcam going?

No.  Webcam is working fine (has been for a month) and we could flip the switch at any time.  We are delaying the launch until we have exhausted our chances to get a nest tray in place.  The window of opportunity is closing quickly so the cam will go live very soon.

OK, thanks. I didn't think that was the case, but it was something I'd heard via the grapevine. Thanks again for the response.
