When they do a shift change will it really be noticeable

Sometimes if you blink you can miss it. They can be pretty quick. It's just the good luck of being at your computer when one happens. There are actually a couple of shift changes posted YouTube . .

If you scroll down below the videos, Tracey has comments that clarify who is who and what's going on.

There is one called "Shift Change" where both parents are present for a short time - and another called "Quick Change" where Ivy takes off as soon as Princess arrives.

You'll notice that Princess is chatting most of the time  - I don't know if I've ever seen Ivy 'talking'. :-X

Hi Everyone...

Hope all have had a most enjoyable day...So can anyone tell me(yes I know Princess is bigger than Ivy). When they do a shift change will it really be noticeable as this is only my second day on here and have seen mom? dad/ tending and turning but have yet to see an actual shift change?

Thanx

Yup we Phanatics are always fretting about something!  ::)
We have to stop doing that and just enjoy the moment.

Funny, last year we worried about the eggs getting cold, now we worry about them overheating ::)

By crouching, they act as sunshades and they can funnel whatever breeeze there is over the eggs with their bodies if necessary.

I wondered what that was about - they are so clever. Thank you for the explanation.

1615 hrs (local) - Princess is still playing sunshade but it doesn't look as though she's "listening" for the chicks, so don't think a hatch is imminent, but who knows  ;)

1230 hrs (local) - shift change and Ivy's on duty now - had a bit of trouble getting all the eggs back under him, doesn't look like any hatching yet, though it did look like Princess has left a couple of white down feathers behind - Ivy was cleaning them off the eggs/gravel as he was trying to get settled.  He's also tucked himself and the eggs back entirely undercover.  I was able to see Princess' head/tail while she was incubation on the new SkyCam but can't see so much as a millimeter of him now.

SkyCam ??!!??

Don't I at least get to name them, after all, I gave them life !?!

Seemed appropriate - BoxCam, BoxLedgeCam, NestLedge Cam, SpyCam and now the camera that is higher than all the rest, the one that looks down from the sky at our peregrines  ;) :-*
Well, I'll have to ask my new friend Henry what he thinks.

??? Is it me or is there distress in the nest? When I look at the nesting site, I wish Princess had laid the eggs back further than where they are now. They are exposed to the west sun and it will only get worse in these temps. When I look at the sitting parents, they open their beaks and appear to be saying, "water, water".

The birds are fine GMG, they are panting is all and its very normal.  And they did it on the nestledge too.  If they were in real distress, they would switch off more often.  There is in fact quite a breeze up at the nestbox today, the SkyCam is getting blown around a bit.  They don't incubate all the time when its warmer, they eggs will get too warm (they sit next to their skin) so they crouch over them instead.  By crouching, they act as sunshades and they can funnel whatever breeeze there is over the eggs with their bodies if necessary.

Princess is right off the eggs now, and letting her body shade them.

Not to worry, I just recently found out, from a highly respected authority, that the parents roll the eggs from one place to another very often. Princess did lay the eggs quite close to the back of the nest box and they've been taken on little "trips" since. ;D
