I wonder if she's looking for dinner maybe?  Or maybe she's wondering why dad is late with the take out  ::)

Mom on the perch in the snow  :(

I keep wanting to say ...Come in out of the snow.
It is snowing so hard now that you can hear it hitting the nest box. Yikes ::)

Snowing in Elk River.  Poor birds.  The falcon in the box has been looking up sideways from time to time as if to say,  what are these big white clumps dropping out of the sky?  This is the same storm that is moving from Minnesota to Manitoba by this evening with 10 to 15 cm of snow forecasted for Winnipeg.  I hope that the Radisson peregrines have a nice warm hiding place for the next couple of days.

Looks like the female in the nestbox, I don't think she has any legs bands either. She been vocalizing a wee bit from time to time. Other than that, nothing to tell.

Our Minnesota falcon was just in the nestbox, having a snack.  Another falcon came in, grabbed the food and took off, but our first falcon did not seem to mind, so I presume this is her/his mate.  I wish I knew if these are the same falcons from last year.  And as the chicks from last year were banded, I hope we find out what happened to Chase, Bullet and Lightning.

I wouldn't hold my breath Eli, we mostly don't hear anything about the chicks after they have fledged unless dead, injured (neither of which is good news) or nesting and identified, which doesn't happen as often as we'd like.  And the highest mortality occurs in the first year.  Now that I have been pessimistic, I will see what I can find out from my sources in case the Elk River folks don't mention it on the webcam site ....

Hey Eli,  I caught that too.  8) I think that we may just have seen part of the courship ritual as he appeared to be calling out to her to come and accept his offering.  At least, I think that was what was happening and that would mean that things are progressing nicely here.  Isn't it part of the deal to show that he can be a good provider?

I do remember you telling us that before but I'm wondering because 30b was only banded when she was injured a few years ago - if she might have been hatched on a cliff herself.  I guess we will never know  :(

On another site, a very knowledgeable person posted a link to the Raptor Resource Project and they do mention 30b in it (specifically in the second link below) and her being displaced.  The good news is there are about 18 sites in this area - including cliff sites where she could potentially nest so hopefully she's going to find a new home.

If she finds a new site, which given that its still early in the year is very likely, chances are she will choose a nestbox site.  We have found that urban birds tend (not always of course) but mostly tend to choose the familiar nest site configurations, i.e., a nestbox vs a cliff ledge.  Its one of the reasons urban nestsites have done so well.  The Raptor Resource folks are good at tracking birds, so hopefully we will hear soon.

Good morning!  8:01 EST and someone just flew into the box..I miss the sound  ???  I see their mouth moving but nothing is coming out..lol!  Still very windy there, feathers blowing in the wind!

Here is the link and hopefully when they find out where she is we can all cheer her on!
