Just to add to Carly's report ... depends on where the wing is broken and if it is an open or closed break.  Lower break (toward tip of wing) better than higher, closed (not broken through the skin - which is quite thin) better than open.

Keep us updated Carly ...

Ouch...just went back and not good news:  the young are only about 2 weeks old here!!  :'(

UPDATE - Thanks to the assistance of the MNR,SPCA and local Humane Society, we now know that our male (ID'd via band #) has been recovered but has a broken wing. He was taken to a clinic in Vineland for further assessment. From my limited knowledge of raptor rehabilitation this isn't great news in either the near or long term.

Our female is obviously put off by this given behaviour witnessed at the nest ledge today.
Updates will be posted as received.

Toronto Residential Falcon Nest -Alert-
Canada

Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 10:13 am

Hi all.
Just a heads-up, we have concerns that our male is MIA.
If you happen to notice two adults on the nest cam can you let me know day/time?
Either here (BCAW) or via the contact link on:
www.asic.ca/peregrinefalcons

Hopefully he resurfaces!

The photos on the cam site of the very newly hatched chick are magical.  The set from the first hatch show a dramatic contrast between tender parent with hatchling, and fierce protector sounding an intruder alarm.  The sight of a less than 5 minute old hatchling is absolutely wondrous.

Too bad the airport couldn't put a NO PEREGRINE FLY ZONE sign and the peregrines could read it  ::)

Let's hope the three stay away from the airport this year...!

This morning at ~930AM the third hatch was observed! Photos of the wet pink little ball taken moments later. This concludes the hatching for this clutch as the 4th egg has not been seen in days.

It's 15C, very windy and raining on & off so far today.

Second Hatch (yesterday)!

At approximately 10AM a second hatch took place. One egg remains in amongst the newly hatched, the one removed from the group yesterday has not been brought back, presumably the adults know something about it that we don't.

A feeding of the two young was observed around noon. The female fed while the male stood by.

A hello to viewers from Belgium, Palo Alto California, The Netherlands and London in the UK!

We have a hatch confirmed by Mathew at 8:15 am:

815AM - first hatch observed on live video! Mom then observed eating parts of the egg with the wet new arrival in front of her. It's a chilly 6C this morning.

Photos of the new arrival are challenging to take, but you can see a pink featherless little peregrine with closed eyes, less than 5 minutes old.

A quick greeting to the webcam viewers, it's amazing to have people watching from Canada, the USA (Florida), Wales, Switzerland and South Africa!

I am so relieved..go mum  ;D ;D

Phew!  I thought I was going crazy!

Too bad though... :(
I wish this pair luck...hopefully their second clutch will be successful.

No, no it's the Scarborough site pair that is on second clutch.  There is no thread for them as yet because first, we didn't know there was a pair there for sure - there was an old hack box there converted to nestbox but they chose another location instead...kind of like P&T did - you build then a nice house, they move into the garage  :P.  Then they only saw 1 falcon around, well turns out that was because the other was incubating eggs.

Pretty fast re-nest, good for them.  We will definitely need to keep an eye on this site ...
