Just so folks know, that is Ivy on the eggs right now, guess Princess was just making sure he got down to business before she went off to do her business ..

Princess has given up on Ivy for a food drop.

She was hanging out on the Radisson sign above the nest

There appears to be two large eggs and two small. TPC, does that have anything to do with the sex of the chicks? Two females, two males?  ??? ???

Nope, has more to do with the depth of the scrape and the angle of the camera  ;)
Eggs are all the same size - no gender differences and watching them for the last couple of weeks, none have looked smaller or "different".  The lighter coloured ones tend to be the older eggs, first and second to be laid.

Thank you for your response to my question, TPC. It is going to be an informative season, however, a very busy one for you. Phrom your phanatic phorum, we say, in advance, THANK YOU!  :) :-*

Princess was with the eggs for a short time. She started giving a shoutout again, gave up, went to the ledge and took flight. I have still not seen Ivy. Has Ivy brought food or allowed Princess to go "shopping" for herself?  ::)

Do you have plans for a "Tuppernestbox" here, TPC? ???

At the moment, no Kinderchick.  We are thinking that we will just let Princess, Ivy and the soon-to-be-chicks be until we need to disturb them to band them and hope that Mother Nature is ambivalent and that Princess continues to do what she does best.  Having said that, there is more gravel on the roof (remember we emptied out the tuppernest) and it is deeper in that corner such that there is a decent scrape showing there right now.  Princess and Ivy are experienced adults and they chose to forgo the nestbox this year so we are thinking we will just let them do what they do best for the time being.   Chicks are due to hatch about the 25th, some light rain is forecast in the next two weeks (most before the hatch date) and temperatures are in the mid to high twenties range around the hatching.  The implied part of your question Kinderchick is "could we put a tuppernest in place if we decided we had to" and the answer to that is that yes, we do have plans for that, but it will depend on the availability, weather, equipment, timing etc. so even with a plan, we could still be unable to put it into action.

Sorry, not the straight forward answer I think you were hoping for ...

It's an cover for a drain, they are standard on rooftop drains.  They help to keep debris etc from clogging up the drain as I understand it - like the wire mesh some folks put in their eavestroughes to stop leaves, acorns, etc from stopping up their downspouts.

Too bad it doesn't do anything to stop the nest ledge from flooding if it rains hard and we have wee ones :'(

Hi Phanatics!  great to be back after the winter.  Great to see Princess and the nestbox.  Can I ask, what is the "pere-phantacage" in the corner of the nestbox?

Nestledge cam is installed and up and operating!  Thank you Eye-Spy and Dennis!

Female on the eggs ... male/Ivy checked us out as we were working ...

This year we will be able to flip between four cameras again - two on the west side (skycam & outside box cam) and two from the east side (spycam and nestledge cam).  Very cool to be able to watch both sides simultaneously!

She's looking quite content

Edited to add: she's been looking up and around - she must hear the sirens. A couple of emergency vehicles just came from downtown headed south on Osborne with sirens blaring.
