Okay here are the steps ...

Register for an Photobucket account ...

1.  Go to www.photobucket.com
2.  Click on "sign up now" and register for an account. When you have signed up, you will automatically be logged in

If you already have a Photobucket account ...

1.  Go to www.photobucket.com
2.  The "login" button is on the top right of the page ...

Now if you need to upload photos ...

3.  Click on green "upload now" button
4.  If you have albums, pick the album where you want to store your photos where it says "upload to".  If you haven't got an album, you can make one or use the one the system automatically makes for you.  You can move your photos later if you decide you want to create albums later
5.  Then click on "select photos and videos"
6.  Find your photo on your computer and click "open".  And now your photo is loaded.
(If you have lots of photos to load all at one time, you might want to check out the help section, there will be a way to load multiple images all at once rather than one at a time - but one at a time works just as well)

Now to link a photo in your album to the Forum - this is the preferred form as it includes a link back to your album so that folks can check all your photos (you took them, you deserve to show them off!)

7.  Go to the photo you want to post and double click on it
8.  Go to the right where it says "share your photo" and click on "see more"
9.  Click on "get link code" on the top tabs
10.  Go down the list that pops up and find "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" then copy the code to the left of "clickable thumbnail"
11.  Paste it here on the Forum

If you take a bunch of photos, please only post one or two here on the Forum.

Every time someone scrolls past a photo, the link makes the Forum go find the photo and displays it.  Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a web site - in this case, the person scrolling by the photo is traffic but so too is the photo because the Forum has to go out and get the photo.  I pay for all that traffic.  If you have ten photos, don't post them all, just post one or two and include the link to your album.  This way I only have to pay for traffic to/from 2 photos rather than 10 photos.

Another advantage is that folks can leave comments on your photos on your album which you all deserve and they will last longer on your albums than here on the Forum and that just isn't fair to you all.   And it means that folks don't have to scroll past pages of photos and kudos when they are trying to catch up on the comings-and-goings at a particular nestsite.

Looks like you folks worked it all out - sorry, had to leave for a while there.

Good teaching, TPC!

No worries Pam  ;)  Real life does tend to get in the way.  The advantage of these kinds of tutorials is that folks can ask questions and we can keep a hard copy (so to speak)

Not to worry folks, happy to help out and its easier to just do it until everyone can do it at least once.  I will post a summary of the steps just like I did at the end of the Flickr tutorial ...

just copy the code to the right of "clickable thumbnail"

the code puts a smaller image on the Forum and attaches an active link which is "clickable" that will take folks back to your photogallery ...

the "i" shouldn't be there but the rest works.  This is the first way to do it, now try the second way ...

1.  double click on your bear so it becomes big
2.  Go to the right where it says "share your photo" and click on "see more"
3.  Go down the list that pops up and find "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" then copy the code to the left of "clickable thumbnail"
4.  Paste it here
To the left of clickable thumbnail is confusing me. Have gone to the list that pops up and found IMG for bulletin board & forums. Clickable thumbnail I don't see. Do you have a screen shot. Apologize for taking up your time as this was only supposed to be an hour. So close now appreciate your help.

Not a problem LinderLou, happy to help - just give me a minute ...

Well, I think I'm going to call it a night. While I was posting photos of my Lulu, she was attempting to sneak off to my cat's litter box, as she has been known to do before. ::) :P Thank you very much, TPC and everyone for your patience with me, while I stumbled through the process. :-*

2.  Preferred process ...

a.  Under "share this photo" click on the link that says "see more" and up will pop a new window ...
b.  Click on "get link code
c.  Find "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" then copy the code to the left of "clickable thumbnail"
d.  Paste code into reply box on the Forum ...

Why is this preferred, because you can post one or a couple of photos and if folks want to see more (and they will), all they need to do is click on the photo and it will take them directly to your photo album.

I cannot find "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" then copy the code to the left of "clickable thumbnail" . I am trying to share an album.

So I should of used a photo of my own, is this what you mean.

Nope, that peregrine photo is not mine as I don't have a Photobucket account.  There was nothing wrong with your choice ... go to the same page ..

Ok that didn't work! Read again and try.

Linderlou:  You were trying to use the URL address which Photobucket (and most other photosharing sites) have set up to not be the direct route to the photo - I think it protects the photos from being found by search engine bots ... a bit more copyright control ...

Yeah I figured the watermarking thing had to do with layers and all that.  I use Photoshop Elements program to do that with watermarking.

And that's all it takes Kinderchick :)  Well done.

Now you can set up separate galleries (albums) for different photos - "pets", "peregrines", "squirrels", you get the idea.  When folks click on your photo they will go to the appropriate album, but they can go check your others while they are there and it will help them decide to do it if there are appropriately name albums  :)

I resize my photos (because they are 1 or 2 mb in size before I retouch em) and put my name on them as a watermark.  Makes it discouraging for people to claim my work and theirs. Resizing them to about 100 kb in size is perfect.  Most photo places or programs have a resizing feature.

You can also minimize in size using Paint, which is included on almost every microsoft computer ... to to your "start" button, then "programs", then "accessories".  All you need to do is open your photo like any other file.  Click on "image", then "stretch/skew" and decide how much smaller you want your photo - 25% or 50% or whatever you like.  A watermark requires a more powerful photo editing software (one that creates layers) so as not to distort the original image.

Try this one again Eagle and just make sure that you haven't missed what is known as the closing bracket  - the trick is to just make sure you copy all the code.  It happens to me all the time  ;)

But now this is really creepy, why do I see a photo of my husband's face just below my photo, beside the words "post a comment"? :o

Now here is where we have two choices

1.  You can display just the photo without a link to your photo gallery.

Look under "share this photo" to where it says "img code", click on the code beside it and copy it.  Then paste into/onto the Forum

Not my preference because it leads to folks posting more photos than we really need at any one time on the forum.  Makes it tough for folks to easily catch up on the goings-on when they have to scroll through lots of photos
AND
they would probably like to look at all your photos, not just the few you put up at a time

Okay, now look at the top of your page where it says "my albums" - its just to the right of the Photobucket logo ... and click on the "my albums" link and your photo album opens and your photo shows there ...

Let me know when your album is open and you can see your photo ...

For those of you without a Photobucket account, just open a new browser window and go to www.photobucket.com and then find a photo - easiest way is to just choose a topic (squirrel, teapot, sock) in the search box ...

Our next step is identifying the code to display the image here ...

Okay, now click on "select photos and videos" and it will open up the "my documents" folder on your computer ...

find the photo you want to upload, click on the filename and then click on "open" and your file is now uploaded to photobucket

It just looks like the same page as before. There's a grey taskbar that says "upload from my computer" on the left hand side at the top and there's another grey taskbar on the right hand side at the top that says "upload to Kinderchick's album". Directly below that is a green taskbar that says "select photos & videos". But when I click on any of those buttons, nothing happens. :(

Sometimes I have to click "select photos & videos" twice if it doesn't work the first time.

Thanks RCF!

In RCF's example, the downward arrows beside "my computer" and "2011 Brandon Falcons" let you choose where you want to get your photos from and where you want to put them.

I saw upload now and did but it wants me to login.

Do you have an account with PB already Linderlou. If not registar first

If you want to sign up now LinderLou, feel free or you can just follow along in your head (like me) as I walk Kinderchick through the process as she has an account.  When she has the photo loaded we will get back to stuff the rest of us can see too.

Kinderchick, because I don't have an account, I want you to tell me if you see a button that says "upload photo" anywhere on your page ...
Yes! :) Well, actually it just says, "upload now".

Okay for the rest of you who don't have Photobucket accounts, go to your other open window and type in www.photobucket.com and then use the search function to find a photo - type in teapot or squirrel or whatever you like, it doesn't matter what the photo is for this exercise ...
Should I do the same, TPC, just for practice?

Hi TPC I haven't decided what site I want to chose yet. However, I am reading all the info about different sites that others use. If you want to post a picture from another site do you still post this photo to the site that you have chosen, e.g. Photobucket or FlicKer?

You can post from whatever photosharing site you have ... I use PBase so I post from that.  I just chose Flickr and Photobucket because they are free and I know some folks have accounts there ...

I will open this board just before the tutorial begins so that everyone starts on the same "page" so to speak.

See ya all then!
